It’s not true, it has about a 12 year life but it doesn’t allow you to just reset. Also burning natural gas emits carbon and nox as well. The methane is just the (relatively) short term accelerator.

 

Methane has an atmospheric lifetime of 12 years, which is much shorter than co2, that is true. Are you referring to something else?
