Been doing a weekly YouTube covers since lockdown in the UK, just uploaded this one.

 

Just got this e-mail from Top Shelf Records about how they are selling a bunch of test pressings in their on-line store starting Wednesday, 7/15. Lots of KD pressings on the listing.

The BTR Test Press Vault opens Wednesday

On Wednesday starting at 2pm EST we will be selling test presses of almost everything we've ever released in our webstore. Quantities are extremely limited and expected to sell out near-instantly for many of the titles. These are all of the test presses that we can part with -- this sale will happen once and only once with the inventory that is available and then there will never be more of these again.

We've set what we think are reasonable prices for all of these test presses, rather than putting them up on eBay, where prices would likely exceed what most people are willing or able to pay.

A portion of the income from this Test Press Vault release will be donated to bail funds in Philadelphia and Atlanta (where Thomas and Zack live) to support protestors working to end police injustice.

yes!! Always happy about any Kevin activity.

 

He mentioned working on new songs in a studio I believe. I figured for a new record or something, but getting 3 new songs sounds great to me. Plus it’s on bandcamp. Not sure if tomorrow is a day when all sales go directly to the artists or not.

The EP was posted on Patreon yesterday. Great stuff, kind of a different, more ethereal vibe from him, especially the first track. Beautiful little set of songs.

 

Do we know if these songs are part of the album he's been working on or something separate in the meantime?

I like the vibe of these. more my style than anything on instigator actually.

 

The first song immediately reminded me of Tranquility Base Hotel and Casino.

 

He’s really into this “floaty dream” phase. Reminds me of Kuala Lampur and a few other songs.

He’s definitely got phases: Acoustic folk, 90’s grunge, Indy garage alt rock, the Elliot smith vibe, the protest singer, floaty dreamy stuff, Folklore, just to name a few. Hope the eventual album has a nice mix of stuff. That song Albatross from a live stream has some teeth to it, and it’s acoustic and awesome.

Anyway, new songs aren’t my favourite way he records songs but they are still stuck in my head. Just the lyrics, phrasing and comfort of hearing his voice sing anything. Such a nice treat to have this just come out all of a sudden. More time I spend with the new songs the more I will enjoy them too.

I've Never Been Happier is lovely. Really appreciate him trying new things after all this time.

 

I don’t like taking about artists’ personal lives a lot, but to me this song is crazy depressing knowing him and his wife are now separated.

 

did not know this. him and bazan? that sucks.

 

He talked about it a little on Dustin Kensrue’s podcast earlier this year.

I think the sharing of his personal life and views has had a very positive impact on how feel about his songs. He paints a very human picture. I want good things for Kevin, and will root for him during hard times too.
