Yeah it's a tough call but ultimately I'd have to agree that Varga is the show's best villain. Malvo was great too though, so it's between them for me.

yup that is s3, I think episode 6 but I could be wrong

only found out today that the Hertzfeldt-style animations were originally meant to run through the whole season instead of just episode 3, and they tried to get Hertzfeldt himself to do it. really curious what that would have been like

I just hope we get a Charlie Day cameo in S4 to complete the trifecta

  5. Milligan was the least straight up terrifying and I think that’s a lot of what makes him my favorite. Definitely has a menacing energy but doesn’t really have that straight up chaotic evil core that Malvo and Varga have. Just another pawn in the game doing whatever it takes to stay on top, which is what Fargo is all about imo. The way he ended up a desk jockey and is so bummed about it was hilarious and so relatable

I fucking love Milligan but yeah I don't really think of him in that same category tbh. He doesn't actually have much agency as a villain, he spends most of his time reacting to what the other characters do. But damn he's just so charming and well acted that it makes up for that. You almost want to root for the dude

...very different type of character from Varga. Man is absolutely repulsive and irredeemable, he's directly behind almost every terrible thing that happens in his season, he's an absolute monster every second and you can't look away. I'm not even comparing the performances of the actors or anything, but as an antagonist Varga is in his own league

Milligan is one of the best characters this show has ever given us but yeah I don’t really think of him as a “villain” necessarily.

Milligan is great. He’s just kind of more fun to me than he is necessarily threatening, the way Varga feels like a force of nature or something. Varga feels like a weird embodiment of where authoritarianism meets finance. I always wonder what they’re trying to say with all the Russian stuff around that character.

I always took Varga as a metaphor for the insidious nature of technology/the internet and it's impact on life.

  13. This is an interesting viewpoint that kinda goes hand in hand with the way technology seems to start failing Gloria once he shows up in town

Oh yeah, another reason why season 3 rules: it is the only season (so far) to feature Carrie Coon.

Man i love Carrie Coon. Nora Durst is one of my all-time favorite TV characters, and i saw her in a production of ‘Bug’ before COVID hit and she was phenomenal. Also: fellow Ohioan.

  17. I remember a lot of people being really excited for Carrie to be on s3, but this was my first experience with her and I think I was actually a little disappointed? Like she certainly wasn’t bad but I kinda remember thinking she was really underutilized for the amount of hype I was seeing.

She’s good in Fargo, but she’s on another level in The Leftovers. One of the all-time great tv performances.

She was also in Gone Girl as Ben Affleck's twin sister (despite being nearly 10 years younger than him IRL)

  25. Yeah big agree here. That movie in general ruled, I gotta rewatch that soon.

Oh that’s right! I guess Fargo wasn’t my first time seeing her, then.
