Gunn, Waititi, Coogler, Black, and Whedon (Avengers 1 anyway) have all retained their identities as filmmakers while making Marvel movies. That said, they’re really the only directors Marvel has worked with that even HAVE readily discernible styles (aside from maybe Kenneth Branagh, and tbh Thor 1 does have a lot of Branagh in it in terms of his direction).

I’ve always thought that it’s kind of funny when people have this conversation about filmmakers “losing their identity” when making Marvel movies. What is Peyton Reed’s identity as a filmmaker? What is Jon Favreau’s? What are the Russos’? The only directors they’ve hired that have a style and personality to their work have all managed to make sure they shine through in their Marvel films. I don’t really buy that Marvel grinds these super creative people down to fit their mold, most of the directors they’ve worked with weren’t really standouts in the first place.

 

eh. i disagree. people use the peyton reed example but don’t mention that two other directors - two with very recognizable styles - left the project before settling on him for “creative differences.”

the directors of the first movie in this character’s own entry have a pretty distinctive style and CM1, while i enjoyed it, might have been the most This Is a MCU Movie of the bunch... scott derrickson is used as an example of what the MCU “could” be, and yet actually isn’t.

At the time I thought it was pointing toward her being in the Secret Invasion series, which I guess she still could be, but yeah it could definitely have been referencing this instead.

What kind of villain would require them all to team up

 

From one theory I read, Zawe Ashton could be playing the villain Moonstone, who was previously known as Ms. Marvel, which would lend itself to the title too. I don't have much background with these characters, so I couldn't tell you how plausible that is.

 

I'd wager she's either playing Veranke or Moonstone

 

Perhaps it's both? Moonstone revealed to be the identity Veranke is using?
