Just listened to Dogs Eating Dogs yesterday. I think Pretty Little Girl is one of the better songs Tom did with them. It has lyrics that aren’t just inspirational fluff and the instrumental is nice. They also try something different with Yellawolf and it works for me.

Disaster on the other hand is the opposite of that. And the rest is good, shame we never got an album with them writing together.

Hmm, I'm not so sure on the rap part myself. Just an odd mix. I mean, Linkin Park does it, so it's not THAT out there, but I just was digging the song as it was. The thing is, it's very Angels and Airwaves in style. It's fine, I like AVA, but it's weird for a Blink song. I'm sure I'll play it again sometime, but not sure it's a favorite.

Oh, I wanted to say something light about it though. While I missed most of the lyrics, I did catch the "hand up the arms" bit. But, lol, have you seen the YouTube comments?! People are such goofs!

I think one of the issues of Blink at times is the whole “this is Blink. This is side-project”. It really puts the band in a box.

NINE was good because they went out of the box a bit.

  7. Finally comparing the official DED vinyl to our fan pressing. While the official release DOES sound better (for obvious reasons,) I can say with confidence that the fan pressing has better artwork and, a huge plus, even came with a nice plastic sleeve. The official is a 45 which was surprising but fun to discover. Kinda cool having varying playback speed versions.

ps: I’ll die on the hill that Disaster is a top-tier blink song that too many people write off because of the long admittedly shitty intro. It transcends the intro, though, IMO

  8. 2009/2010 era MCS song produced by Hoppus just dropped! I guess it was made for the twilight films and rejected and shelved.

Wow @Jason Tate I just re-read the +44 interview with Mark and the following passage proved freakishly prescient for Neighborhoods:

  10. It’s a really honest interview. Always liked how that one turned out.

Seriously it doesn't sound media-trained or anything it just sounds like a straight-up conversation.

Wow! That was so cool!! Makes me want to meet them all even more!!! But, it's not the same now. Sigh! But I thought it very sweet how they said all those nice things about all of the contestants, ha! And then Tom felt bad about the phone prank. :D Most surprising thing though, I had no CLUE Travis ever spoke that much!! Lol It was very cool to see him speak freely like that. Very cool and nice guy. :)

It’s wild how technology changed the music industry since 2003. The whole writing and recording separately thing seemed so frowned upon and unheard of 17 years ago where it seemed not many had access to that luxury like they do now. Yes, theres a whole creative dynamic missing when everyone isn’t in the same room vibing, so I can totally understand where Mark was coming from at the time and how things evolved between then, Neighborhoods era, and even now amidst a pandemic.

It’s wild to imagine what the next blink record would’ve been like if they never broke-up and actually did what Tom wanted to do right after they practically lived and wrote music under the same roof for a year. That would’ve been a complete 180 on the creativity scale In such a short time haha.

Dogs Eating Dogs has a couple good tracks I guess. Oddly enough, as much as I really dislike Tom's voice post breakup, When I Was Young and Pretty Little Girl are the only songs from it I still occasionally listen to. DED is overall just meh for me.

Also, the fact that Boxing Day went through how many people before release, and no one realized they straight up stole the verse melody from All Star never ceases to make me laugh.

Ob La Di, Ob La Da is great. It's a very simple song executed very well and is catchy as hell.

The two best parts of the amazing song ‘Always’:

1.) Mark’s bass in the entire song.
2.) The synth in the outro of the song.

I’d say that Offspring ripped that song off years ago with ,,Why Don’t You Get A Job?” BIG TIME haha
