Man. Third season was absolutely my favorite. Pacing was a lot better throughout as there were multiple “big” mysteries to focus on instead of one master one that they built up to for 20-something episodes.

Seeing Keith get to be sheriff ruled. I want everything good in the world to happen to Mac. I was apprehensive to the Piz/Logan love triangle stuff very early on but by the end felt super invested. It’s a shame they crammed so much into that last episode because I cannot imagine what it was like to just accept that as the end of these characters for seven fucking years, y’all are troopers.

Gonna watch the movie tomorrow and already have 1000 Dollar Tan Line saved to my Audible library!

I've watched S3 at least 4 times and I still don't really understand the ending. There were so many unanswered questions, even if they are somewhat minor in scope. Plus I never felt like the stakes were really that high in the later part of S3 for anything to matter much, at least when compared to S1-2. Overall S3 was definitely better than 1-2 in most things but I think for me it's when it started becoming too smart for me I guess? I mostly like things spoon-fed to me and I think the ambiguity and subtlety of S3 just went over my head. I really need to do another rewatch of S3.

    What did your wife think?

I’m wrapping up my season 3 rewatch and I think I agree on it being my favorite season in a lot of ways even if the main mysteries don’t have the same appeal as Lily’s murder or the bus crash. One thing I don’t like about S3 is that Wallace is essentially sidelined. A lot of S3 is just Veronica doing her own thing.

Absolutely wild to me that we have multiple people in this thread saying season 3 is the best. Not throwing shade, just genuinely cannot remember ever seeing that take before reading this thread today!

  6. Yeah I totally hear ya on a lot of that. Was the show cancelled? I got the vibe they were trying to deliver a cliffhanger/tease the next season, but accidentally gave too much info instead or something, haha. Like, we knew enough about The Castle to know it was a huge deal but were left with enough unfilled blanks to not really know why. It’s also odd that they didn’t bother wrapping up the “who planted the camera” mystery, but my assumption is that The Castle put it there to observe Wallace and only caught Piz and Veronica hooking up by happenstance?

She basically had the same thoughts! I told her what you said about having seen the s3 finale multiple times and still not feeling like you totally “get” it, so I think that helped her feel a little less crazy hahah. She was pretty set on wanting to re-watch it before the movie.

  7. Totally agree with this, felt like they had no idea what to do with him but had to keep him around as a means of Veronica getting closer to Piz

Yeah it got cancelled and I believe that that definitely was the reasoning behind the incomplete ending for sure. Thankfully it wasn't like a massive cliffhanger. Like the ending was fine it just felt incomplete.

If you buy the S3 DVDs there was a special feature about looking forward to what S4 would've been at that point in time.

I'm glad your wife had similar feelings as me, especially considering I haven't seen it in a few years haha!

The S4 feature on the DVD I believe was a Hail Mary to try and get the CW to renew it

The reference to it in the film is pretty funny though

  12. Where was this? Just finished the movie and I think I missed that it it went over my head? Haha.

The movie was cool! Definitely just felt like fan service mostly, but it was really fun to see everyone a little older, as well as a more modern production style and new set design. Didn’t love that the murderer ended up being the one dude we’d never seen before but I get that furthering the story wasn’t really the point when they made the movie! Stoked to start the first book this week.

When Veronica sees Leo he says something along the lines of "Oh, I thought you were in the FBI!". The original pitch for S4 was her joining the FBI and following her cases there.

Didn't realize he was in it. I don't think I've ever seen him in anything except his new CBS show though lol

  18. Finished The Thousand a Dollar Tan Line last night. That was fun! Was surprised at how little actually had to do with the cartel family because it felt like such a big focus early on, but that just goes to show how twisted the mystery was. Couple of chapters into the next book now, liking it so far!

I loved the little tidbits about Lianne and thought the book did the show well in book form. Not big on the characterization of Weevil though.

  20. Yeah the whole plot with Lianne was super satisfying after she ran back out of Keith and Veronica in season 1! Always felt like we needed some closure there. The whole thing just felt very focused and more centered on Veronica than any season of the show did, which I liked a lot.

What do you mean exactly about Weevil? I think the only part of the book I remember him being in was when Veronica was at the shooting range. Unless you mean his characterization in the second book, which it already feels like he’ll have a much bigger part in

I believe that was the only part he was in in Book 1. He def has a big part in Book 2! I just like redemption Weevil and am not big on his story from the movie onward.

  22. Ahh okay I hear ya. I agree, his exit with the PCH at the end of the movie was a little disappointing. So many of his problems in the show are a result of the way people view him, not saying he hasn’t deserved it for some of the things he’s done, but it was really nice to see how he’d finally gotten far enough away from that life that he could even beat the case with Celeste Kane. Was hoping he’d maybe take another crack at working for Mars Investigations but it sounds like that won’t be the case!

  23. I liked Mr. Kiss & Tell a lot! Interesting to see Veronica nail the offender so early on instead of the usual, where she gathers information about the wrong person and then gets hit with a twist ending. Really liked that there were a couple of chapters focused on Keith too, tbh I would’ve gladly taken more of that. The chapters about Logan on the other hand.... idk. I think I’m over him. I get that their whole thing is like “imperfect until we sync up and then we’re REALLY perfect”, but at this point their relationship feels more forced than anything. Maybe the show will do a better job of balancing it all.

Anyway I’m really excited that I can finally go back and read through this thread up to July 2019 now, hahah. Hopefully my girlfriend won’t take too long to get through the books.. really anxious to start season 4. She’s only on chapter 6 of the first book and The Bold Type is to blame!

  24. I am..... so bummed about the s4 version of the theme song lol. How did they whiff it that hard

Anyway, I’m five episodes into s4. I don’t hate it so far? I miss Mac and wish there was reason for Wallace to be around more. Weevil and Veronica being on bad terms hurts to see. Veronica not really narrating as much is definitely setting a different tone too. But getting Marino & Greenfield back along with Simmons, Oswald, and Howell-Baptiste is a pleasure, and the Keith/Veronica dynamic warms my heart as much as it ever has.

still keeping my guard up to be let down though
