I would honestly be terrible as a member of congress because I would never in a million years be able to "check my legislative sparring at the committee door". Nobody would want to work with me on anything.

I mean you kind of alreayd knew this was coming but it's still depressing as fuck to read. Sigh.

I sometimes think the same thing about myself but when I think about it I kind of have to do it every day anyway with more conservative teachers in my department and such. Sometimes when you're just talking to people, you kind of forget about whatever their politics are as you bullshit about whatever beer you like or what your sports teams are doing or etc.

Back in less polarized times, that kind of 'camaraderie' was how people from the different parties used to be able to convince their friends in congress to vote for their shit even if it's not something they would typically not back.

The death of free time for congress people to interact (because they're on phone calls with donors all day) + getting rid of earmarks + increased polarization means you'll hardly ever get politicians from the other party to sign on to your major legislation.
I miss the earmarks man....just bribe legislators to vote for shit by sending money to their district. The demonization of them in the early Obama years by Boehner was dumb in hindsight.

Yelling at Liz Cheney just seems like yelling at Cersei Lannister...she’s a maniacal power hungry person who would probably kill you for doing it, but she doesn’t even have to because her dad is a complete psychopath that will literally shoot you in the face.
