Let's hold our breath until we disappear

I was really impressed with INVSN in 2017. I hadn't listened to their music before watching their set, and it ended up being one of my favorites that day.

Third Eye Blind, Gin Blossoms, and Smash Mouth would all rule too.

  3. I've seen Ben Folds solo and with yMusic, but a Ben Folds Five set would be spectacular.

I saw him in Milwaukee in 2017 on his paper airplane tour, which is still one of the best shows I've ever been to. Then I saw him last year with Violent Femmes, which was fun, but not an ideal environment. And then the day after on his book tour in a 400 cap room, where he played two songs after the interview. It was so sick.

not specifically jangle, but from that general era id certainly watch James, better than ezra, and eve 6.
edit - and of course ben folds, in any capacity, saw him with an orchestra and it was a delight.

Weren't there a lot of rumors about No Doubt reuniting for the Tragic Kingdom anniversary?

And speaking of 90s acts... Art Alexakis mentioned on his Songs & Stories tour that Everclear would be doing a 20 year anniversary tour for Songs from an American Movie vol 1 this summer. I'm a little (read: extremely) biased, but I think Everclear would fit really well at Riot Fest

Eh. I think people overstate the reach that a lot of those bands have. But even if they did? My point still stands. Counting Crows are a middle of the road band with no real history with independent music culture. Yes, a few prominent bands heard their songs on the radio and thought they had cool lyrics (and they were right)...

But that doesn't necessarily equate influence of the sort that Riot Fest tends to look for when booking acts. There's exceptions to every rule, but there's zero evidence that this will be happening.

I would be saying the same thing about the Goo Goo Dolls if they came up in the conversation too. And that's a band with bona fide punk/hardcore roots. It's just a poor fit for the festival as a whole.

I'd certainly watch Eve 6 but like I said above, I just don't see that happening.

Ben Folds would be sweet, though (mostly because his tickets are always stupid expensive).

"A lot of rumors" is a strong way of putting it. Adrian Young posted something on IG about it, and then I couldn't let it go. So I brought it up a few times, usually to a rallying cry of people telling me there was zero shot. Haha. Probably not happening, but I'd love it if it did!

I got to see Ben Folds Five on the Last Summer On Earth tour with Barenaked Ladies in 2013, and I can confirm that a BFF reunion set would be excellent

It makes sense if you don’t want to have the same festival every year. I think riot always does a good job at digging into little sub pockets of bands and they haven’t gone that angle yet. I think it would be smart.

I've seen Ben Folds solo, Ben Folds & Y Music, & BFF.. and can confirm all were amazing..

I'd love some CAKE at riot too

I don't know if anyone mentioned it, but the Offspring seem very possible too.. maybe Veruca Salt

also I still think No Doubt or the Strokes are the 3rd headliner

They do a great job at digging into those sub-genres. But I stand by my statement. I really doubt it's ever going to happen, and if it did? It would be maligned by a pretty significant chunk of their fanbase.

I feel the same exact way anytime somebody brings up Limp Bizkit, Korn, etc. Could it happen? Sure. Maybe. But it's highly unlikely and would be a hard shift from any of their previous booking patterns in a pretty significant way.

There's definitely some 90s alt-rock bands they could book that wouldn't have the same baggage, but the Gin Blossoms and Counting Crows certainly aren't in those categories... (Again, not bagging on the bands. They just aren't a fit.)

Given that the Offspring are very likely to have a new album out by the time Riot Fest hits, I think they're a likely sub-headliner if they happen to be touring at the time.

Cake and Veruca Salt would be fun too. But they definitely fall in the category of "will they be touring/active around the time of the festival?"

I'd be all in with No Doubt. I'm feeling less likely about it with the album anniversary having passed but, y'know... I'm still holding out hope for that No Doubt/Madness/Sublime with Rome/Dance Hall Crashers/Interrupters/Catbite stage that probably won't happen.

I only mention Veruca Salt bc they are from Chicago and have connections to the Pumpkins

Interrupters may be out bc they are opening the Green Day/Weezer/Fab tour

although the members of the Interrupters play with Tim Timebomb & Friends, and that's Thursday night bucket list shit

I know it's all context. But it's crazy to know what bands are "out" with the festival over a year out. Hah.

Don't recreate the scene, or reinvent the meanings Supporter

Regarding the Counting Crows and their influence on Riot Fest type of bands, The Gaslight Anthem literally used the lyrics from Round Here in the High Lonesome chorus. Also, that band is steeped in the San Fran DIY scene. Yes, they are considered a 90s pop/alternative band, but at a minimum, their lyrics have a pretty big influence on more modern bands.

Exactly. If you write them off as a 90s pop group you're grossly misinformed.

I'm very well aware of all that. But in the current context, and to your average festival-goer? That doesn't mean a thing. It does to the kind of person who would post on a music forum... But to your average person? Not so much.

I feel confident saying that there is a 99.9% chance that the Counting Crows will never be on a Riot Fest line-up.

No Millencolin, 88 Fingers Louie, Satanic Surfers or Make War. They are going to be in Soth America. They are going to be in Brazil. And it really does feel weird to know dates of a tour like that this far in advance.

Well yeah. But just because they can doesn't mean they will if it doesn't match the festival's aesthetic or what the average festival-goer attends said-festival to see.

Well, that's a bummer. A Pennybridge set was high up on my list. I'm hoping, at a minimum, that Millencolin plays my area at some point in 2021.

Tempted to get a ticket for next year before the deadline for the Thursday show! I went to Riot back in 2013...Has it changed much since then? I think it's a different location?

Also has anyone purchased any of the tickets above GA...Are they worth the extra money?...Mainly looking at the VIP with the re entry privileges.
