My mom is director of one in North NJ, they had an absolutely brutal march/april. Things have calmed down now thank god.

Mentioned to a friend online that I’m not leaving the house for the foreseeable future and he commented back that he “finds it hard to believe” I’m not currently going out at all. Yep, I lied, you got me. What a great and supportive friend you are.

Didn’t realize exactly how different this thread/site is for being understanding and respectful about this stuff until that moment.

I was going to say I understand finding it hard to believe in the sense that..like, no one else seems to be taking it seriously lol but why would you lie about that

and like ian said I feel like just knowing you I’m like ah yep she’s exactly the kind of person who would hole up completely and take it seriously

Well my nursing home was ravaged...but for me it was similar to the flu. Body aches and fever for 3 days, but he loss of taste and smell lasted for weeks. It was strange.

Every single person we've talked to about it outside of this thread/site (including family not currently living with us) thinks we're absolutely insane for how serious we're taking it, even after explaining our reasons multiple times

    Yep

And I’m not even taking it *as* seriously as @EASheartsVinyl, and maybe you too idk, and I still feel this way

then again I mean I live in Florida so

Yeah it really stunned and disappointed me. He’s someone I’ve known for years in “real life” and generally knows my life pretty well. He also knows my mom somewhat and that we live together, so her risk level being high isn’t a secret. Plus he isn’t even someone who isn’t taking it seriously himself, so it makes even less sense. Just put me off completely that he would insinuate I’m making it up or that he knows my life better than I do.

I know we’ve all been reevaluating certain friendships for a ton of reasons over the last few months, and that interaction started another for me.

The way you say that has me thinking you’re an antimasker

    god I hate that that’s a thing I typed

I'm definitely not an anti-masker. I mean, I'm certainly not going to wear one going from the door of my house to my car, but I will always respect the rule of wearing one when I'm in public around people.

Edit: I admittedly make fun of people wearing a mask in their car when they're by themselves... but it's out of love. Working on the front lines gave me a complex..what can I say..

I’ve been super fortunate to have a lot of family taking it seriously. My dad isn’t doing the absolute full lockdown anymore which makes me nervous since he’s SO high risk, but he’s still only going out when absolutely necessary and with precautions. And my brother’s family have also been good about staying home too except for a few recent distanced things. Mostly my brother goes out alone and everyone else doesn’t leave, especially not the kids. They haven’t let my niece’s friend come over since it started and I know that’s been really hard for her being so young.

My more extended family has been worse about it and that has stressed my mom a lot recently. Her brother in particular is being way too cavalier about it and I have no idea what will happen there.

Tbh SAME like I love seeing people wearing masks but the car thing makes me laugh a bit, as someone who’s job is hands on chemistry and biochem and I’m trained on fumes/hazards/etc lol

Taking my mask off between places can feel weird plus steering wheels are filthy

Yeah I don't wear one in my car on the way to/from work but everywhere else (which is like nowhere) it's mask on

Vain but once it's on how I want it to be with my hair, I don't want to have to fix it again. Sometimes I forget and try to hit my juul

Yeah now that I think about it I only try to go to one place going out so I can isolate where I’ve been, etc. and I keep sanitizer and wipes in my car and wipe my handles, ignition button, steering wheel, etc every time I get back to the car after whatever place I was at

so once I’m done I just throw the mask into the backseat so I don’t even have to think about it for days

They fixed your brain when you were young.

My wife's family has a house by the beach in NJ that they've kept in the family for years, even though the grandparents who lived there have passed away. Since we're the closest family members to NJ, we had to go there a few weeks ago to open up the house and stay for a few days to do some maintenance and make sure everything was good. However... she and I were looked at like we were FREAKS for wearing masks. It was literally like a nightmare just seeing people turning and starting and even getting mocked and jeered at. We're still taking everything pretty seriously, but that was eye opening to how little people care about it..
