Go read some american history text books if you want examples how communities fail to uphold laws. "Leave it to the community" would make it easier for racist communities to remove minorities from their communities. The Camden model is good and has led to a significant decrease in crime and better relations with the public and police. Ideally what I think could be good is using them as a guide but going even further in terms of accountability and also having alternatives to police responding to incidents by having first responders be social workers, mental health providers, etc. when the situation calls for it. That could decrease the spending as well as the amount of police officers in the department

 

I saw someone on FB compare the dissolution of the MPD to the Purge movies, which is funny bc they clearly didn’t watch the last Purge movie where it turns out that the whole idea of The Purge is a fraud, and in reality the government uses it to send in the police and white supremacists to start murdering poor/black people and other “undesirables”

Hollywood protest today was great. Not a cop in sight other than a helicopter hovering. Ton of people walking, ton of people there giving out snacks/water/masks/sign materials. Really ruled.
