Is anyone able to link me to some good articles that lay out the arguments for abolishing the police? Preferably something that goes into how a world without police would function?

Kind of a random question, and I'm not being facetious, but does anyone have experience with betting sites? More specifically, I'm planning to bet on Trump winning the election and will donate the profits to multiple organizations (Planned Parenthood, ACLU, etc.). I figure I might as well make the best of a terrible thing.

 

My mother really sent me that Candace Owens video agreeing with the entire thing and having no idea she was a right-wing talking head.

yeah this “but nobody is paying attention to my racism!!” stuff right here is the shit I don’t like.

 

I can understand the frustration with the lack of attention with asian racism in this moment, especially because even the liberal candidate for president is putting out racist ads that are making things worse so it feels like the whole country doesn’t care. But to act like that’s a reason to not show solidarity with the black lives matter protests right now is pretty ridiculous. It took multiple blatant murders within just the last few months and a video of a cop murdering and torturing a black man for this to finally boil over. It’s not like this is selective outrage, saying this is long overdue is the understatement of the century.

 

I WOULD love to see the rioters/protesters be more specific on their targets. Like, lighting precincts on fire? Excellent. That's a good start. But i would love to see someone finally go burn down the FOX News building. It's in NYC. It's time we take them down...and i'm dead serious about that. How have they evaded being trashed for so long? I legit consider them to be a top 3 poison in the world, if not number 1. Go get em

 

I’m sick and tired of people reaching to find ways to justify police brutality...even with phones up and recording constantly they cops continue abusing their power...wtf is it gonna take???

 

I mean, can't both of these things coincide with each other? I feel as though the reform aspect here (like looking at 8 Can't Wait) is the immediate goal and something that most people agree with and something that can actually be done now. Not trying to sound like an incrementalist here, but pinning this as a reform vs abolitionist debate just doesn't seem like the best way to go about it. Those reforms are needed and they would still make a difference.
