Yesss ^ (edit lol clearly this is about the Portland news not the lightning)

That reminds me, today there was a clash because organizers on megaphone were like go home the cops are hiding and are ready to come and attack so just GO home and a ton of people did go home but there was also a group that was like no fuck that we aren’t doing anything wrong we aren’t going anywhere
They changed to saying if you don’t want to be arrested or tear gassed you should leave while you can

honestly I get the fear but I also think that there was a lot of hyping up of people certain that certain things were happening that didn’t happen and idk. It’s good to be prepared but I also think getting people scared prematurely is not good

ALSO two white ~agitators~ came up to us at the park and were antagonizing people and starting fights (no one was violent but they all wanted to be and I 100% don’t blame them. I couldn’t hear exactly what he was saying bc I knew if I got any closer it would no longer be nonviolent)

anyway they were trying to start shit and people fed into it for a moment and then someone started blasting music and a dance circle broke out

after a few min one of the people went on mic like no this isn’t a time for celebrating we’re not doing that. And I get it and we immediately started marching again after that. But it was a really beautiful redirection and refocus and took away the power of the agitators

there has been more asian support for blm than ever.... now thinking about how to steer it towards anti-imperialism and anti-colonialism.

That video from Buffalo is currently occupying the top three spots on reddit. It's getting a ton of traffic.

Are Boomers seeing one of their own getting knocked down, skull cracked, and blood oozing from the ears gonna change their mind about this?

I think the main thing about that Buffalo video is not the officer pushing him (which is horrible in itself), but the fact that nearly every single officer nearby seemingly did not give a shit and had no concern over that man even after seeing him just lying there with blood coming out of his head, as well as the police report saying he tripped and fell.

Cause I know there are plenty of people who would see the push and say "well he obviously wasn't complying to the officer and maybe was threatening him", but I don't know how you defend lying in the police report and the surrounding officers not showing any concern whatsoever.

wrap yourself in petals for armor.

Merrick, Long Island was trending the other day because a group of racist assholes tried to stop the protest going through their white suburbia. Today, thousands showed up in solidarity and then hundreds of us kept marching after, miles down where we took over the highway. I was proud to be a part of this tonight. We walked 11 miles. 5 hours. Cops were following the whole time. When we took the highway they tried to surround and separate us. We got on an off ramp and marched back into town before we realized the cops had trapped half the protest on the highway. We marched back, rejoined them, and shut both lanes of the highway. Then we marched on to the police station where we knelt, surrounded by dozens of cops who were just hoping for an excuse. But we were pretty large in numbers ourselves and tonight really proved we don't need them. We can protect ourselves, we can protect each other.

We basically spent the night forcing the police to block the roads for us. They were pushed back, and back, and back as we marched on. It was beautiful.

I have a lot of pics and videos but don't want to post anything with people's faces here so I'll leave this pic:

Getting people to give a shit about anti-Asian racism would also be a great place to start. Asian people being assaulted in the street daily due to the coronavirus is still happening and has happened for the last 3 months, and everyone just ignored it. There was no trendy hashtag, no social media presence. All these people I see posting about Black Lives Matter now were radio silent about Asians being hate crimed on the regular, or Trump's "Chinese Virus" rhetoric. Just another instance of American society ignoring the Asian plight - nothing new.

There's been a definitive shift in average public response to Black Lives Matter, but...

I wouldn't get too excited about it.

Still plenty of white people scattered here & there w/ their hot takes, & even the people who've been partially won over still seem to mostly see this through some variation of the "bad apples" filter. It's a valuable step in public consciousness for sure, to have what was previously super controversial online turn into something that people feel pressured to give at least lip service support to (like having to talk about one's mom on Mother's Day, lol), but it's an opportunity more than a victory, imo. I've rejoiced at the shift w/ a couple friends... but, I've also tried to then make whatever I say online try to push the conversation just a little bit further.
