I just got home from protesting in Tampa all day. happy to report that as far as I know cops left us alone for the most part*

we had a really huge group shutting down the streets of downtown Tampa and it was really powerful


*edit: this is clearly not true as members of our march got attacked with tear gas. They just waited in one spot and once we got there let loose. Other than that there was not a big presence and that’s why I was so surprised to hear about the ambush.

 

Unfortunately doesn't seem like all of Tampa PD performed that way tonight. They're trending on twitter rn for this (might just be trending in FL tbf):

I am seeing this and gathering information now. I’m so outraged. From what I’ve gathered this happened when the group went a different direction. My friend and I got left behind basically and didn’t know where they were going/where we were at so we went back to the park(starting point) to meet them there

that ^ evidently happened during that. I was sitting at the starting line with some organizers and medics and none of them knew that’s what was happening.
When the group finally came back around and we rejoined them I didn’t even hear of it!


And this is what makes me mad too bc idk why they all went that way. If we had stayed downtown there was not a huge cop presence AND there was the protection of being downtown. Once they went off that downtown grid is when police did that bc they knew there weren’t as many eyes on them. Fuck this shit.

 

Sounds about right unfortunately. It's a completely messed up game they're playing. Orlando hasn't been any better honestly. It's just so infuriating to watch from what's basically my two hometowns. Glad you guys were able to stay safe at the very least.
