I just think whenever in general I see a blanket statement about the police I’m always thinking in the back of my mind about how they’re the reason I wasn’t stabbed one night because of a drunk asshole trying to rob me or worse. It’s kinda hard to switch that off haha.

I get what you’re saying, genuinely, I do. A few good-meaning folk (in a different country even!!) aren’t going to overhaul an entire establishment that’s continuously violent, racist and corrupt.

like here, black people don’t really get the luxury of calling the police about someone trying to stab them bc there’s a chance it will end up with them brutalized by the people who they called to protect them

but furthermore ultimately when we say fuck all police and abolish police we mean (well I guess I can just speak for myself so I mean) that the system is so corrupt we need to rebuild it. Rebuild it means that I understand the need for a policing type system, that WOULD protect any and everyone from being hurt. So like that aspect of a police force is still valued even if it will ideally look completely different
