This so accurately sums up a good portion of my experience, too. Over the years I've questioned what even draws me to the site so much, but "home base" is the best possible way to describe it.

I've never posted on any other forum and the only social media I've used on a consistent basis is Facebook, yet I've probably spent more time on AP than I have doing anything else in the past 6 years. For better or worse, I owe so much of who I am today to it and everyone on there. I can't really imagine what my life would be like if I never joined. Probably more productive, but definitely less grounded. I joined when I was a scared, lonely, depressed, and introverted kid, and I didn't know much of anything and I never added much, but I was just happy to feel a sense of belonging somewhere.

  12. I joined in 2008 but didn't really become an active poster until 2012. Oddly enough I have AP to thank for broadening my music tastes away from punk. I already loved blink and Brand New before joining, but I ended up exploring way more hip-hop as well as artists like The National and Bon Iver. I also owe a great deal of thanks to a lot of people (most of whom are here) for broadening my general worldview and teaching me a lot about social issues I never would have considered otherwise.

I've been a member of many other forums, but over time AP became the clear #1. More than anything else, I met a lot of great people and I'm forever thankful for that. And I'm grateful to continue those friendships and that community here at Chorus.

And last of all, thanks to @Jason Tate for making all of the above possible, and for giving me a chance to help build that community here as part of the moderator team. If you're ever in Boston, you have a beer waiting for you.

In regards to all these "First Post" posts...didn't the forum database get wiped at some point? Supposedly my first post was from 2008, which does not seem correct at all since I remember posting in 2004 about the elections lol

No dollar amount would get me to link to the first time I was quoted. Maybe the worst thing I ever posted.

My first post on AP was back when TWY did the contest to win the Hank costume and you had to upload a video explaining why you should win it. Thank god I deleted the youtube video ages ago

My first fistful of posts sucked, but I stopped being so dumb quickly.

  22. Yeah, there's been so many corruptions and things lost over the years it's beyond annoying. I think I found a few things from my account in like 2007 (better to pretend they don't exist) but so much was just ... lost to the wind.

Google will hate or love me when this all just ... fades.

i think a lot of people's first posts were, but it shows how much you have grown as a person over time....riiiiiiight? That's what I am telling myself to feel better.

What the hell, I thought I was just going to routinely check Chorus before I went to bed.

AP.net was my internet home base for the last five years. The community which I largely observed instead of contributed to, is one that has helped shape who I am today. Art, sports, politics, you name it. I literally can't picture a present day version of myself if I hadn't stumbled across AP.net. My experiences over the past 5 years over there are literally engrained in who I am.

Just want to say thanks to Jason for creating that community, and to the wonderful posters who taught me so much over the years. Looking forward to even better experiences with you all in the future, here on Chorus.
