Just a quick question that I'd much appreciate answered:

To a complete outsider to some of these characters, does Harley Quinn have any "metahuman" abilities? I mean, it would have been nice to see how a doctor goes from a presumed normal person, to a highly trained killer in the matter of what seemed to be a very short time with Joker.

Also, I've heard people complain about Will Smith as Deadshot and the fact he was in the movie in the first place...I thought he was awesome.

 

Harley has been 'powered' at times in the comics, but to answer your question, no, she does not have any type of metahuman powers.

 

She did get tossed around a couple of times, but her ability to kill is questionable. By all accounts, she's a normal person who hangs with, and has been brainwashed by a psychopath.

 

Which makes her inclusion in the Squad mind boggling. lol

 

Well, I mean come on, both you and I know why she was included in this movie. Her wardrobe is another questionable, yet understandable for the demographic, choice.

 

Yeah. Really the only two "meta humans" on the team were Croc and Diablo. I honestly don't know how any of them would have been effective had the hypothetical Superman ripped the roof off of the White House and grabbed the President (as was stated as being the premise of forming Task Force X). I don't think the rope guy or the boomerang guy ever really stood a chance against a powerful meta human.

 

In short, I'm tired of the over sexualizing (is that not spelled right, or even a word?) of certain women characters in movies. Enchantress was almost naked for most of the movie, but it was never highlighted if that makes sense, so I had no issue.

during the end credits, did Batman give away the plot for Justice League? If so, that's a LOT of people in the damn movie. It also sets up the back and forth between Joker and Batman.

Well, she is actually really great in the New 52 comics. Her role in the Squad keeps things moving and is highly entertaining. It made sense to include her, but it doesn't translate well to film. It would have made more sense to use Ivy, Giganta, Killer Frost, etc. Harley was kind of an excuse to shoehorn the Joker in. Her comics are also at the height of their popularity, despite being awful.

 

Ah Joker, what a waste.

 

Had a really hard time getting into that show.

 

Why was Slipknot in this movie? He literally doesn't even get to really show off his skill set and is on-screen for like 30 seconds lol. Poor Adam Beach.

 

Everytime I see him I can't help but think of his role in Joe Dirt.

But yea, he served as the "this is what happens if you stray the pack" character.

 

SS typically does that. They'll introduce a character and kill them a few panels later.

 

Did anyone have a problem with Smith or Deadshot as a character? I personally loved him, and his interaction with Batman goes to show just how vulnerable Batman truly is.

 

I just wish Slipknot had a proper introduction like everyone else. His death basically felt like they killed off a nameless extra haha.

 

SS should have been as long as the BvS director's cut, I think.

 

If this movie really wanted to make something emotional in Harley's arc, the obvious route seems to be drawing the parallel between Diablo and the Joker. Both are abusive partners, both volatile, wild card criminals who have put their partners in harm's way with little regard for what happens to them. Diablo got to the point where he literally killed his wife. When he's telling that story, Harley should see the mirror of her and the Joker, especially given her later dream sequence of being in a domestic relationship with the Joker, having kids and all that.

But no. "Own it". It's like this movie was a first draft, but rather than read over the first draft and go "Oh wait, look at all these interesting threads, this could be something, we could be onto something here. Let's ditch the standard, generic CGI villain stuff and follow these emotional threads", they just shot the movie as it was.

 

DC is trying to capitalize on the Marvel effect and more specifically - Avengers. The bad thing is that we don't know who these characters are. I typically don't like origin stories but SS would have benefited greatly by a couple of solo films from the major players, or something along those lines.

 

Does anyone agree that The Watchmen did the "anti-hero" thing better than SS?
