Yikes, holy gross

 

The guy that wrote Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter and Dark Shadows (Johnny Depp vampire movie) is one of the guys writing the movie, so if you liked those movies you may really enjoy The Flash.

 

Dark Shadows was awful. It's the one and only movie I have fallen asleep during while seeing it at a theater.

 

I hated Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Slayer (didn't even finish it) and loved Dark Shadows. It was the first movie date my fiance and I ever went on

 

Oh my god.

to ease your mind a little, maybe. An individual who helped write The Lego Movie, both It's Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs, and two episodes of HIMYM. He also helped write Extreme Movie.

Maybe, just maybe it won't be a straight to DVD release two years from now.

 

Just got back and I actually liked it quite a bit. My only major complaint was that Enchantress was a bad/cheesy villain, but I could get over this until the end when they all fight as I really enjoyed the characters' chemistry. I did think the ending was well-done though.

My other complaint is that there wasn't enough Joker for my tastes, though I can accept that this isn't really his story and he probably wasn't necessary for more screentime than he got (though I wish they at least included a few more of the scenes with him they apparently cut).

Actually, if they had just made Joker the villain and not used Enchantress this probably would have been one of my favorite comic book movies (a genre I'm admittedly not a huge fan of for the most part)

Will Smith gave my favorite performance of his in years, Margot Robbie was a great Harley Quinn and I'm looking forward to seeing more of her and Leto together in a future Batman movie, and Viola Davis killed it. The rest of the cast did great with what they had but quite a few of them were underused, especially Captain Boomerang and Katana. I do agree that Killer Croc's characterization was kind of odd and too stereotypical, though I was really happy to see that character on the big screen.

Solid 7 overall for me

 

Jared Leto proves himself to be a pretentious piece of shit

 

I bet the Flash will be okay, but the suit and the effects I've seen thus far have been really meh. I love Ezra, though.

 

This movie was pretty awful. Not as actively terrible as BvS but almost.

Well, bring on Doctor Strange!

 

Seee...this movie actually made me feel better about BvS. I was disappointed by BvS but I honestly think this is one of the worst films I've ever seen haha.

 

Maybe my expectations were higher for BvS so I judge it more harshly. Both movies are among the worst big-budget movies I've ever seen.

 

The Flash film is directed by Rick Famuyiwa (Dope) and stars Ezra Miller and Kiersey Clemons. Lord and Miller helped develop the film, and screenwriter Seth Grahame-Smith is also a writer on the Lego Batman Movie, which looks great. And while I'm not crazy about the outfit, it's not terrible and looks better than I expected.

I was apprehensive initially because I love the show so much, but as of right now, I have a lot of confidence in that film. (Though, a Wonder Woman failure would wreck that confidence.)

 

I feel like it'd be truly difficult to fuck up the Wonder Woman movie at this point. Should be way less moving parts to deal with.

Finally about to see this in 20 minutes.

 

Yea, it makes me feel better knowing Famuyiwa along with Lord/Miller are behind "Flash." Getting people guys with a geeky, comedy background is a pretty smart choice.

The collider review is the best. An in depth, civil discussion with people who liked it, we're mixed and didn't like it.

 

Can somebody please explain why everyone says Robbie was really good in this? She did nothing but parade around like an over exaggerated pinup doll and throw out cheesy one liners. It doesn't require acting chops to lick prison bars seductively.

 

Well, it does, actually. I think a lot of people misunderstand acting, placing too much emphasis on line readings. I thought Margot Robbie's thick, fake accent didn't really work for this stylized version of the character, but her physicality and energy was pretty close to perfect. The shift in emotion from wild cackling with the Joker to over the top anger when Batman lands on the Lamborghini is a moment of Harley Quinn energy. Her limp shoulders and confused, sad gazing up at the sky after the Joker's helicopter crash, then her 180 turnaround to perking up when the rest of the Squad arrives was done well. A lot of acting is hard to quantify, especially when you get into subjective "it worked for me" or "it didn't work for me", both of which are basically fair at a personal level but don't lead to an interesting discussion of acting. But to go to your example of her licking the bars seductively, it does require acting chops, sometimes in ways we can't see. We don't know if licking the bars was in the script, it could have been a choice Robbie made. And then you have how she licked the bar, some actresses would do it differently and again, you get back to it being hard to quantify because we don't know how another actress might have done it, but it felt like an authentic Harley Quinn beat to me for this version of the character.

Not that I think her performance was without flaws, again I wish she didn't slip in and out of that over the top accent, but overall her energy, her physicality, and her chemistry with Will Smith all worked (for what it's worth, she worked okay with Leto too, Leto was just so mediocre it didn't do her any favors)

 

Man, this movie was totally fine. It has its problems for sure but there's so much good here that it's hard not to enjoy it. The editing is bad, the plot is full of huge leaps and holes, a lot of cheesy / bad dialog etc etc but Will Smith, Margot Robbie and Viola Davis killed it. This was nowhere near the shitshow I was expecting and nowhere near as bad as BvS was.

 

I didn't realize Jeremy Jahns did crack. The more you know.

 

I haven't seen it but that is essentially what post-Arkham games Harley is. She looks great in the trailers. But I guess I can't talk until I see it.
