I don't remember my first thoughts/what the first song by these guys I heard was, but I do remember waiting for the debut to leak and then listening to it on a long walk when it happened. I feel like I decided I truly loved this band when I first heard Settle Down - Girls - Robbers

First time I actually gave ‘em a shot was when there was when AbsolutePunk posted the “Sex” music video. Checked it out on a whim, thought, “That’s a good song,” then went on with my day.

I forget if the “Girls” music video was next for me, or if that came after checking out “Love Me,” but those songs & videos were the start of me being an actual fan of the band.

I just remembered hearing a lot about them, but didn't actually know any of their songs, so out of boredom I just ripped their Self-Titled album off of youtube, and The City immediately impressed me. The drums were so heavy, but the melodies were so tight, and it skillfully used guitar in a synth-based song.

Then I heard Sex a few minutes later and it BLEW MY FUCKING MIND.

This is like my exact experience. I kept seeing the thread on ap pop up for the Music for Cars EP so I decided to click play on Chocolate and it just grabbed me immediately. It really is interesting to think about that first moment you were introduced to something and several years later they’ve gone from that band you decided to give a shot on a whim to a band that means such a great deal to you. There’s that moment it grabs you out of nowhere and suddenly you’re in it for the long haul.

Goddamn the impatience is definitely settling in. I have waited all this time to not listen to any of the songs, but now I am getting antsy. Can't wait for release day.

Right? And then that someone like Stevie Nicks can have a similar experience... it’s pretty wild.

I remember yeah, going home, listening to Chocolate all the way through, then finding Sex and The City (lol not the TV show... just became aware of my wording) and not long after, seeing the video from their Radio 1 Big Weekend 2013 set...

From there I was like “ok, these guys are gonna be top-tier.”

Absolutely not anywhere near as much of a fan as most people on here, but I remember exactly where I was when I heard them for the first time. Down the shore with my wife's friends, pulling out of the place they were staying at and I remember saying "I heard these guys were good" and put on "Settle Down" and really fell in love with that song.

I listened to the first two albums multiple times each and couldn't understand the hype. Randomly threw on the 3rd one after it came out and suddenly everything just clicked for me. Now they're one of my favorite bands.

Can't remember exactly when I first heard them but they were all over radio one late 2012 early 2013. Remember they had maybe 2 of the EPs on Spotify at the time and that was it.

    I hate spoilers. Supporter

Tbh I have absolutely no recollection of discovering them / being introduced. I know it was after the EPs because I didn’t know about those, and it was some time during the first album cycle because I was super hyped for Sleep.

I definitely got into them with whatever their last EP was. And then I saw them in an old gutted movie theater.

Heard Chocolate and thought it sucked. Saw them at Coachella 2014 and it was pretty bad. I was convinced they were a band I wouldn’t like by that point. But then the day they released Somebody Else I was converted.

I kinda liked the first album, saw them at Coachella and it was bad.
I kinda liked some of the second album, saw them again at Coachella and it was bad.
Liked all of the third album, saw them AGAIN at Coachella and they were actually amazing.

    beautiful and chequered, the end

saw they were opening (lol) for the band Little Comets years back, they had no music released at the time, searched up live videos, thought "man this band sucks" , cut to years later and they my fav band. Not sure how that happened

Bought MFC on a whim but didn't listen to it much. I remember liking S/T but it wasn't on rotation much either. It was actually A Change of Heart that really drew me in. That song was released right around the time I'd realised I was done with London and decided to move home to Glasgow so the lyrics and the melancholic tone of it just resonated with me instantly. Once ILIWYS was released they quickly became one of my favourite bands.

I had the exact same situation except with The City. Heard the end of it on XM radio and downloaded the EPs that were out at the time.

Had downloaded the album and probably didn’t listen to it for weeks and then Chocolate came on my trusty iPod classic on shuffle and I was like WHAT IS THIS I LOVE THIS.

The City is dope for sure... love the outro with that backing vocal bit. Just... so good.

  25. I don't exactly remember how I got into them. I know they were one of the few suddenly hyped up acts on ap.net at the time, like Lorde or perhaps Grimes? I loved the EPs, but was disappointed by the album. I checked out until the start of ILIWYS' rollout. It all started to click once I saw the pre-album performances of The Sound, and with Love Me and Ugh's releases. Then the album came out and was the soundtrack to the rollercoaster of a year 2016 ended up being.
