  1. Didn't the radio staff say BTD was one of the rockier songs on that album and compare it to The Rock Show? I remember reading that and thinking it was an apt comparison when I heard the song for the first time.

i will be so fucking thrilled if they make this a back to basics album. they're so desperate for an album like that right now. no more long winded conceptual albums, no more anthems, just a straight forward quick GD punk album.

but i'm not holding my breath at all.

They basically attempted three albums of that on the trilogy and it was awful. I would just be happy to hear whatever it is they're currently feeling rather than a conscious decision to write a 'Green Day' album.

I wouldn't consider a 3 tier album as a back to basics idea. And I don't think that's quite the sound I'm looking for

I don't think the trilogy was the classic Green Day sound at all. It was basically their chance to experiment with a lot of different styles. There are a few songs that lean toward their early stuff, but nothing that actually sounds like their early stuff.

I hope BJ plugs back in to his Marshall stack haha

I'm prob one of the few who likes "Kill the DJ" simply b/c they tried out something new. "Nightlife" is really their biggest egregious error. I hope they stay away from ballads though. I still really do NOT like "The Forgotten'".

There's a teaser floating around YouTube that's supposedly the single. Hard to tell the legitimacy overall, but given the overall vibe of the song (in particular, the guitar and bass) and the description that one radio D.J. floated out there... This feels like it could be it.

I'm normally a skeptic, and maybe I'm off-base but... This feels like it might be it given the way it's written, the production, etc. It sounds like a poor rip but still.

Really curious to see what kind of announcement they'll be making on Thursday. If it will just be the single, album title, and release date or if we'll get a tour announcement and such too.

Whoa I just realized these guys drop the N word in one of their songs. Couple that with the F word being dropped on American Idiot idk if I could support these guys.

I've been going back through their discog and parts of AI are all that's really held up for me.

Yeah I get why those wouldn't bother most since Billie is queer himself, but I guess for me as a queer person that word just makes me so uncomfortable person I wouldn't want to hear it much less use it in a song

Both are used in a sarcastic/ironic manner. I understand it being uncomfortable to hear, but I think you have to consider the context

Yeah, what FTank said. Elvis Costello drops a hard N in "Oliver's Army," but again, it's all in regards to content/context. Knowing BJ's politics and opinions, he would never use those words in a frivolous manner in order to 'shock' the audience.

Revolution Radio title is all but confirmed but I don't think there's enough proof for the release date yet

I don't think context forgives the use of either slur, especially the n word, but hey if that doesn't bother you more power to you

The n-word as used in "American Eulogy" is in quotes, and it's basically supposed to be something that George Bush said during Hurricane Katrina. The implication is that he didn't do jack shit to protect/evacuate New Orleans because he didn't think black lives were worth saving. It's definitely provocative, and if you're of the mind that no white person should ever use that word under any circumstances, then I guess the context doesn't matter. But he's essentially writing a story where one of the characters uses the word. It's the same thing as Tarantino films using the word, which also bothers people, I know, but where the use tends to be contextual based on eras and characters.

Personally, it's not a word I would ever use in a song, even in storytelling. But I think context is important, because looking at the song as a whole makes it abundantly clear that the song is a stance against government and oppression and racism instead of supporting it in any way.

There is no situation, context or not, where a white guy should use a word that is incredibly oppressive and derogatory as the n word. None. Zero. It is fucking terrifying that you are all going to bat for this. Even the homophobic slur isn't ok. Yes, I know Billie is bi. Still doesn't excuse the use of that word and that's coming from me, a queer person.
