Gonna be curious how long breweries are gonna be able to stay open with to go only, I honestly would be surprised if it was successful unfortunately

We’re officially mandated to close at 8 and only offer takeout/delivery. Tomorrow is one of the biggest days of the year for us, so we’ll be doing it, but I don’t know what the plan is after. May very well be on unemployment soon.

 

My brewery is being foster by one of my two owners out of pocket. Once I feel healthy enough to work, I’m pitching in at the brewery to finish the projects my bosses have neglected for three years. On our conference call today one of my owners started the compensation conversation off with “mike you’re salary so either we pay you or fire you. We’re gonna pay you.” I was like uhhhhh why do you have to say it like that. Obviously I’m aware one way to cut money from the budget is my below-living-wage salary but don’t have to come at me like that.

LOTS of breweries in Michigan opening up ordering online and using their staff as delivery drivers. Gotta stay flexible in these times.

 

It's gonna be really tough for breweries and restaurants both, these measures are definitely going to help a little but we're definitely going to see a lot of shutdowns unfortunately if the govnt doesnt help out.

A Detroit craft beer group on Facebook has a post about “tipping in to go beee in these hard times!” And the amount of people who refuse to tip on growler fills is fucking maddening. The bartender is filling four pints into one jug for you! TIP THEM MONEY

 

Tonight was one of the busiest nights since I started at the bar and I made less than I do on a normal Friday or Saturday night. People are just conditioned to not tip on takeout orders. This is not sustainable going forward.

 

I haven't done take out beer yet but I honestly didn't even think of tipping til this convo

 

I don't tip on carryout orders but I never buy growlers... just packaged... I can't drink that much in one night lol.

 

I think it depends on the situation. I've typically tipped when getting a growler filled at a brewery. I don't tip when I get a growler filled at a liquor store.

 

Tired Hands is offering free shipping to a lot of places in PA, if anyone here hasn't had their beer and wants to try it!

 

Denver shut everything down til May 11, but most are doing (new) growlers, crowlers, and any canned to go. I know I grabbed a King of Carrot Flowers from Ratio yesterday and it was weird to see it so empty. What a weird time.

 

I still really want to try that beer.

 

Wow that’s awesome! Have only had one beer from Tired Hands (an IPA) but really want to try their other styles like saisons.

 

ET out here doing anything they can. they just opened this ‘speakeasy’ space in the back of the taproom.

It’s official my county is now shelter in place. My work just sent out an email saying since we supply these essential businesses(grocery, convenient, gas etc.) we’re still operational. Very lucky. All our on premise, and bar reps are just helping the drivers/merchandising dept. I’ll be sending my accounts beer still.

I’m so bummed because the amount of beer reps I know that either got furloughed or straight up laid off is too many. I feel so lucky my boss is paying payroll out of pocket for at least a month.

 

It’s definitely a scary time in the industry right now. I’m more concerned about smaller breweries.
