I wish Lords were still making music. This album is such a delight.

    I chortled.

Also, re: Lords of Chaos. Never saw the movie - need to - but I did read the book. Book was an engaging read tbh. Gets into some pretty interesting historical stuff about the weirdly long-running flirtationship between far-right extremism and the occult. Goes back farther than I could've imagined. Definitely recommend the book, although it can get a little bit dry at times.

It blows my mind that Gatecreeper tops that list. Sure, they've got some bangers....but they're a mid tempo generic HM-2 core band. Their album last year was just decent. But I guess this list refers to how active they are and not necessarily quality.

Anyways friendly remember that #17 on that list is one of my favorite underrated bands atm

I'm not surprised because they were also #2 on the Top 50 American metal bands list that Kerrang did lol

Like I'd personally say Creeping Death stand out way more from a lot of the other bands higher up than them on that list

Yeah, I have never, ever understood the Gatecreeper hype. Everyone acts like they're totally changing the game and all I hear is like you said, generic HM-2 d-beat but somehow they have the reputation as the second coming of Cattle Decapitation when they released Monolith of Inhumanity.

this is like a who's who of albums I listened to in high school. I remember trying to learn songs on guitar from Shadows are Security, Miasma, and Ascendancy.

And damn I didn't realize From Mars to Sirius was 15 years ago!

are we still lucky to be here? Prestigious

Not a bad list to be honest. I'm pleasantly surprised at the fact they included a lot of more underground bands on the list that haven't gotten a lot of mainstream press. Undergang being as high as they are is a pleasant surprise. Gatecreeper being #1 is lol-worthy, but I am not going to knock them for including a gateway band at the top of this list. If it gets more people into bands like Undergang and Scorched, go for it.

Ain't it great that these lists are subjective then? I'd personally put Creeping Death right around where they were listed. They're doing good stuff and doing it well, but they aren't reinventing the wheel. A fair majority of this list isn't.

My formative metal years are slapping me in the face right now. I can't believe all of these albums are 15 years old.
