    Things have changed.

Let's not forget the original "When You Fucked Grandpa" was "When You Fucked Hitler," and the banter in the early days made tons of references to people being "retarded" and used gay as an insult.

Now, I think there's been very clear growth from the latter two issues – Mark even changed "retarded" in "Apple Shampoo" the very few times they've played it live since, but they've been a problematic band ... forever.

Let's hold our breath until we disappear

Not denying any of that, but I recognize the social norms were different when those songs came out, and I appreciate the growth and changes made on those particular points. That doesn't mean it was right, but the context is different.

Again I don't think them being a dumbass immature band forever is the same as hanging out with neo-nazis and using nazi imagery and promoting problematic books. If you can't see the difference between making a joke song about fucking Hitler and what Skiba is doing/bordering on...idk what to tell you. Neither is "right", but one is clearly a joke and being provocative on purpose. I don't think that's what Skiba is doing

    EDIT:
I guess I should clarify, I do think that using the nazi imagery is Skiba being provocative on purpose, but that's a way different provocative than singing the Uncle Fucker song to your teenage audience, ya know?

I mean, so, SO, SO much of early blink music is cringey and problematic as hell lyric-wise whether you're a fan of it or not, but yes i can certainly appreciate that lyrically they've seemed to grow from that, and if what you're trying to do is lessen the importance of calling out Skiba by pointing out that Mark & Tom used to call each other gay and call people retarded, that aint it.

We are a few hours away from someone bringing up the argument that blink used to promote animal abuse again in order to defend skiba

If we're being real, "I need a girl that I can train" is far more problematic and toxic and harmful than them singing about fucking grandpa, lol.

For the past few weeks I've just been playing my guitar along to enema to wind down my day, with dumpweed being one of my favorite tracks to play...I have a visceral response to those lyrics it's gross. Luckily I have audio tracks sitting around so I transitioned to playing with that.

But see doing angsty shit like that works when you're a teenager, not when you're a grown ass adult like, nobody gives a shit about you being edgy, it's cringy at best, and kind of concerning in general.

100% agree, no collabs...I think the only Blink collab I liked with Robert Smith.

    Oh I hope this happens!

your head is 100% up your own ass if you think the logical response to seeing artists engaging in problematic/offensive behavior is to just ignore it rather than spread awareness and discuss it publicly or privately. maybe you're the one who should log off.

Yeah how dare you bring trivial issues of these influential men consorting with confessed abusers and broadcasting their interest in Nazi memorabilia and literature into a thread about THE MUSIC.

You know I was going to just leave it alone because this thread is so far gone anyway but honestly, @Heron182 convinced me to stay. So everyone who just wants to talk about the music, make sure you all thank Heron.

Don’t mind one bit keeping alive the conversation about this abuse and homophobia co-signing, Nazi sympathizing-ass pop-punk band. Gonna stay right here.
