Umm what? What a very weird and abrupt ending.

 

Also, I absolutely love Mary Steenburgen. She seems like such a wonderful person.

 

And I got super Rectify vibes from Eleanor walking through the door with the music and fading to white.

 

love love loved it. im so sad but that was perfect

 

Wish we got a better goodbye for Janet but it was pretty damn good overall.

 

The fact Janet can’t really have a goodbye was on my mind constantly the whole episode

 

Brent’s tiny scene was funny:

"So you can never tell a woman to smile? What if she'd legitimately be prettier if she smiled?"

 

Always good seeing Maribeth Monroe, too. She’s always a hoot.

 

Perhaps the finest series finale of any show I’ve ever watched

 

God it was so touching and heartbreaking ugh

 

Could not imagine a better final line for the show tbh

 

Wow. Can not believe how good of an ending that actually was.

 

It was really good but I don't think I'm quite all the way onboard with what they did with Michael. I fully expected him to be just reincarnated (or incarnated I guess?) as a baby but just sending him to Earth as an older man that has absolutely no life and knows nobody, and has full memory of the the afterlife kind of opens up a lot of questions. He's just gonna live for 20 years or so and then die, being sent to an afterlife where he knows he's being tested and already has experienced The Good Place? Won't he get bored even faster than the rest of the humans up there? I did really love all the scenes of him being human though lol

That aside, it's pretty amazing that this show managed to make all of the main characters vanishing from existence altogether feel kind of joyous but it really did. I never really felt particularly emotional but it was really satisfying watching every character becoming completely content with their life/afterlife, it's an incredibly happy ending when you think about it. Also really love what they did with Tahani, I always felt like her character kind of fell by the wayside in the second half of the show once she stopped being romantically paired with Jason and her ending really served to rectify that I think.

Still some great jokes too. I think my biggest laugh was actually when Tahani told the group she was ready to go and Michael was just like "Aw nuts!" lol, although Jason popping up from behind the tree was a close second. The acting was just phenomenal all around too, particularly from D'Arcy Carden, Kristen Bell and William Harper, all of their closing scenes were so powerfully acted.

Usually I would say I'm really going to miss this show but I think it ended absolutely perfectly for the most part and lasted just the right amount of time, so instead I'll just say I'm really looking forward to watching the whole thing again as a complete experience. Never thought a show like this would make me laugh so much while at the same time opening up multiple totally new ideas and ways of thinking that have never occurred to me before. Absolutely can't wait to see what Schur does next

 

Also how did you guys interpret the very end? When it showed the particle floating down I almost thought it was going to go into the guy (Kurt Braunohler!), implying reincarnation? Like he would have a baby and it would be Eleanor's reincarnation? It seems like it was just showing it becoming one with the earth or something though

EDIT: People on Reddit are saying it's their energy inspiring people on Earth to do good and that makes a lot more sense lol. Didn't notice him actually returning the letter when he didn't have to on first watch

 

Yeah I definitely took it to be a call back to Eleanor talking about the voice in her head, her conscience, and that's what their essence has become in the universe

 

fuck me I was not ready for Chidi's chapter in this episode. GODDAMNIT

 

D'arcy Carden was absolutely incredible in the whole thing

 

I'm not crying, you are...

 

Cried a lot, exactly what I thought they would do and they really pulled it off. This makes me feel at peace with death for a moment, which is not something I expect out of most sitcoms.

 

Pretty much cried that entire time, it’s been an awful and weird few months and I constantly have to remind myself that death isn’t a bad thing and to see a show tackle that in such a delightful way of was a treat. A lot of fan service too, Derrick becoming a universe/god?? was amazing

also watching the after show really drove home how this is the most impossible gorgeous cast ever. Yowza

 

D’Arcy was wearing the pendant that Jason gave Janet on her wrist at the after show

 

I loved that there was a lot of stuff that I expected and then some surprises too (didn’t expect Tahani or any of them becoming an architect, or michael becoming human etc)

 

Also I was very pleased with the cameo but I’m not gonna lie someone on here put it in my head to hope for Leslie Knope and I was a little bit crushed lollll

 

I wish Nick Offerman was there as Ron lol

Even just a quick "Thanks, Ron!" From Tahani would suffice
