    Things have changed.

A very 2019/now 2020 move. Good on Tom for cashing in.

I'm confused, is this a publishing deal? I've never heard of this company before.

    Most probably, yes.

The back catalog will still be incredibly valuable regardless of what they do now or in the future. It really exists in a vacuum at this point.

Valuable yes, but likely to increase substantiality in value? I doubt it. They're only getting older and less prolific. I think the catalog could definitely decrease in value though given the political and social climate these days. All it would take are some more questionable decisions on who they work with or some bad allegations.

I could be wrong though. I have no idea about this kinda stuff which is why I deleted that post after some more thought.

Not to beat a dead horse but... this would be a lot more beneficial if their merch designs weren’t horrible.

It'd be a lot more beneficial if they just donated money without the merch caveat. they're multi-millionaires. They'd be fine.

that goes for everyone that does the whole "for every shirt or <<insert whatever the thing is>> bought, we'll donate the proceeds." Just donate the fucking money.

I mean who's to say none of them did already. Just a way to raise money from fans who otherwise may not donate *shrug*

I understand we need to jump to the most cynical possible take right off the bat though

Someone said something mean about blink-182.

It really isnt about blink anyways, as I mentioned in my post. I've seen lots of folks doing this, music or not, and the reality is that it's mostly PR.

The brushfire stuff is a bummer enough without looking for the worst in something that I didn't see in a negative light. But you're welcome to your view and to distill my posts to "someone said something mean about blink-182" I sure didn't defend anything about the XXX shit. Jesus

The frustration is warranted tbh. Not from blink specifically, but look how quickly billionaires raised money for notre dame and not for an entire continent burning

I do agree with this. Like, I love that bands do these merch things for donations for good causes, but I have often wondered why the bands don’t donate themselves. Or both, get double the donations by donating yourself and by doing the merch. That would be cool.
That being said, slimfenix could be correct that they may have we don’t know. On one hand you’d think “why didn’t they say they did?” But then it’s also in bad taste to brag about it. So who knows.

There's enough shittiness in the world that this is the last thing I'm trying to find the energy to find a bad angle in. It's literally just extra money for Australia. If it's to look good, if the band members donated on their own, if they didn't, I don't know. Not just always gonna assume the worst.

Said better than I did I. It's a reoccurring frustration mostly. This is just a small slice of it.

Sadly these days that does happen a lot, I think a lot of us are trained and molded to be that was these days

I mean I also think there's thousands of causes that should have been donated to before the cathedral. This should get billions in a sane world. Idk what it's got, I know Pink donated half a mil. I'll take any good news these days, thanks.

Managing to find a negative about selling t shirts and all proceeds going to charity is impressive.

Will second, for all we know they have donated personally, and as you said - if they made the point public, then they’d get endless amounts of shit for making it about them. Damned if you do, damned if you don’t.

I personally don’t get what the big deal is since they are donating ALL of the proceeds and in no way read this as a “hey, look at us”.

Had it been “hey, Blink 182 here, writers of the hit album Enema of the State (available on Spotify!) We’re partnering with MTV and Pepsi to donate a portion of proceeds to raise awareness to the fires in Australia....” then I’d get the backlash, but that’s just me.

They’ve done this for every large crisis. I sincerely doubt any of the three had any involvement in releasing this shirt other than “hey Mark, we’re gonna release a shirt with proceeds going _______, sign here” and mark saying “ok”.

which is kind of my larger point. And also, again, everyone does it. Blink is just the topic here. I’d call it out for what it is with any other band.

this is just shifting the burden of taking care of the problem to your fans, unless of course, they have donated.

  24. There are a lot of people who want to donate to things like this but don’t really know how to go about doing it, what organization to donate to, etc. This particular method gives those people who feel overwhelmed an easy way to donate to a good cause, and they get a fucking t-shirt for it. It’s a win/win situation. Try looking at it from that angle and not just the “the band wants to donate but refuses to use their own money” one.

  25. Who’s telling mark and the guys to “sign here” in that scenario? Thinking this didn’t genuinely come from one of the guys is a level of cynicism I don’t envy and I’m pretty cynical. I love that the word cynical is making the rounds in here TBH, though
