I love all my children equally. That being said I really wished I Know How To Speak replaced The Parts on Black Mile and was released separately for Amy. I like it, it just doesn't fit perfectly with all the other narratives.

    But.

I Know How To Speak is my song of the decade. Give it to me loud. Give it to me acoustic. Pump that shit into my veins. The soft and big build up of a beautiful Manchester song.

As for the albums, it's clear they've matured over the years and I'm glad they have. I feel like I have an album for every occasion thanks to them. Grungy garage rock and emo shit on LAVLAC....angsty great guitar indie rock on METN. Sweeping and interesting synth and keys and child choirs and crowd chants on Simple Math...straight hard rock album on Cope... beautiful haunt acoustic album on Hope...a masterpiece of a listening experience in multiple acts in The Black Mile.

Can't wait to see what they do next.

I Know How To Speak floored me at the METN show

I guess I should have said done with the ~heavy~, not the loud.

Basically, Pride II isn’t on the table.

I've been getting really onto audiophile stuff lately and Black Mile might be my favorite production and mixing on anuthing ever. That being said, does anyone know where I can find a Hi-Res 24bit veraion of the album? Highest I can find is CD quality.

I love a song like The River. Lots of quiet and loud. Really builds to something, and suits the songs/lyrics.

I personally found having The Alien and The Sunshine back to back boring musically (although I do enjoy The Sunshine as a song).

The Alien and The Sunshine kinda take me right out of that album and I’m not quite sure their buildup to The Grocery is worth it anymore

I think separating The Alien, The Sunshine, and The Grocery would mess up the flow of the album.

I’m not suggesting they should be separated. I’m saying that I don’t think the trio is worth it anymore. The appeal has certainly worn off a bit for me

The Alien/The Sunshine/The Grocery is my favorite moment on that album, probably my favorite Manchester Orchestra moment in general

man. wild post earlier on there. the production and mixing on the last three albums has been pretty awful, even if the songwriting has been up and down across the albums

I think the production on Black Mile is phenomenal. The loud parts of The Grocery get a little muddy, but the rest of the record sounds unbelievably good.

i mean, having asked quite a few people that actually work in audio production about that record and cope specifically, they don’t exactly have great things to say about the audio aspect of that band, regardless of the quality of songs.

cope still has good songs that rule live. bm songs have kinda been snoozes for the crowd at the three shows i’ve seen them at since it came out

I can appreciate technical critique, but I’m just talking about how it sounds to my ears. The production on Cope definitely isn’t great, but I think BM is. To my ears, BM works on both the level of production and the level of songwriting. Obviously that won’t be the case for everyone, and that’s fine.

    disagree lol

it was especially noticeable how little people are into that song after the METN set

People seemed quite excited in Cleveland from my recollection.

I'm sure no one at the Manchester Orchestra show was excited for thier biggest, most commercially successful song possibly ever.

    LA went nuts.
    San Diego went nuts.
    Phoenix went nuts.

From my own personal experience, The Gold is super over in three completely different markets.

The Gold is my favourite from BMTTS, and I was disappointed there wasn’t more like it if that makes sense. Also pleased with I Know How To Speak. I probably go back to this MO album the least of their releases.

My impression has been that BM is well-received by the majority of their fanbase
