I'm really happy to see that these things haven't been brushed under the rug in this thread, for once. Often times a problematic behavior would get brought up here and it would quickly be glossed over. Happy to see that's not the case this time. People can like blink, but they can also hold them accountable.

Doesn’t surprise me in the least considering that shitbag’s massive following, in addition to a huge percentage of Blink fans not giving a single fuck.

 

Agreed - and the frustrating part is this is a band that I count as one of my all-time favorites, but also feels like supporting a major corporation. It's like supporting Apple (great products/ woke culture, but mega corp that has spent the last year appeasing Trump).

Blink has supported some great causes, groups, and have presented themselves (whether genuinely is up for debate) as allies. They've also collaborated with abusers, have a long history of problematic lyrics, and have had some pretty shitty / non reactions to people calling them out.

As someone who loves their music, you want to hope for the best. That maybe the Blink-corporation and associated team of lawyers is just too big for them to take the stand we want them to, but that of course is an excuse.

You hope Matt just has this misguided tendency to shit post and enjoys creating controversy - this is a guy who claimed to join the Church of Satan purely to watch people squirm. But, again, that's making an excuse - between what has already been rehashed in this thread a few times and the easy layup moments to clear this up, he's repeatedly doubled down.

So yeah, favorite band, but that comes with a hefty amount of frustration and disappointment.

 

Honestly Matt isn't as important to my memories with this band as Mark & Travis, so I'm kinda fine with him being a dickhead, but I'm much less inclined to financially & publicly support the band going forward.

 

I for one am happy to see that the resilient stance taken of “not listening to that one track” has made an impact

Nor sure going after the well-intentioned people is the best look here. Like, yes, it's been acknowledged in this thread that more needs to be done, but maybe save the snark for people who deserve it?

 

My stance is simply, blink collaborated with a garbage human being and don’t seem to see a problem with it.

I don’t know how to approach their music right now so I haven’t listened to anything since it was confirmed.

I didn’t stop to make an impact, it was a moral decision. I don’t have a long term answer, but it felt right to distance myself from their music, at least for now.

anyone who has listened and hasn’t stopped is fine with me. It’s their decision. I don’t intend for this post to take shots at those people.
