So based on the imprint and new label connection, is the Americana thing a long term decision, or just Brian be creative. It’d be cool if he did more albums in more variety, or even smaller releases like live stuff or covers or whatever. If he’s in control, the freedom is there (I get time/money/and of course life are such important factors too).

I disagree both about sleepwalkers seeming too long and that Surviving doesn’t seem too short

I like this song more than anything off his first 2 records.

I feel like this direction was pretty predictable based off his last few tours. Seems like he is super content playing smaller, quieter, more intimate shows where it’s him mostly solo talking and having a good time with the crowd. An album of that nature didn’t seem too far fetched.

Song is alright. I’m sure it will grow on me. Really wish he stayed with sleepwalkers vibe.

I love the song, and I know a lot of other people have mentioned this already, but I think it is such an odd move to release the tender closing ballad as a lead single. And he's done it twice now. I don't think I am as adamantly opposed to the entire idea of releasing the closer as a single as some people seem to be, but I do think it is a weird choice, particularly with the types of songs that "See You On The Other Side" and "You Have Stolen My Heart" are. I suppose maybe he is just very proud of the song and thinks its a good sample of the album.

I guess seeing the list of records and style of music his producer was part of, I was thinking more indie rock. When they worked with Brendan O’Brien with gaslight, there was more of a grunge influence. I was sort of expecting the same idea using Katis for the new album.

I have no complaints other than I want more than 8 Brian songs. You’re right about the more subdued shows, but I didn’t know if that was to kept your costs low. Plus some solo artists do a full band swing tour followed by a more stripped down Swing tour.

I guess the Howling Weather is not a fixed group though like The Horrible Crowes (touring version) wasn’t at the end.

they’re technically not a label so he’s not actually locked into anything there

Had no idea. Well I’m glad he’s in control of his own destiny, and his former label let him put out great solo albums and didn’t just drop him.

Thirty Tigers is an awesome company that has essentially enabled a lot of independent Americana/country acts to promote their albums to larger audiences/get press coverage/put together super high-quality vinyl and physical releases of their albums. This partnership makes a ton of sense to me.

the funny thing is, before I knew what the producer worked on, I did get some The National vibes. Not in the sense of like this sounds like a National song, but something with the subdued vocals and instrumentation that I can’t quite put my finger on.

I just listened. I get why people would say this isn’t a typical single. Really pretty so g. I really enjoy Brian’s musical imperfections. Song, like all his other work, feels genuine.

And one earbservation I’d like to comment on is Brian’s diction. This song feels fresh and familiar at the same time, and feels linked to his previous work through his words. So good. Yes I know I made up word.

Since he's "Americana" now, does that mean a tour with Jason Isbell is incoming?

John Moreland and Brian Fallon opening is the dream tour. I’ve already seen two thirds of that on one bill, but sliding Brian in as well would be insane.
