I think this dichotomy also exists with the UK / Ireland's take on math rock as well: usually very bright tones, Caribbean/Latin-inspired percussion — very summery, overall (Think TTNG, Pennines, Enemies, etc).

It's been written for years. They probably forgot how to play most of it by now haha. Never gonna happen. They played it live once at their last show (opening for toe in Chicago in 2013).

Also, this is one of the sickest openings to an album:

Monobody, featuring Chicago music genius Nnamdi on drums, math rock mixed with jazz, two bassists, one of the best live shows I've ever seen:

this is one of my favorite albums ever

mathy, post-rockish avant-rock with the weirdness and darkness of Kayo Dot and Twin Peaks (the TV show)

    mindblowing

Twin Peaksy is right. This is really creepy and great. Probably perfect for around Halloween time.

it also has some very lush and beautiful sections which makes it a lot easier to swallow (any time of the year)

French band Totorro's Home Alone is probably my favorite math album of the decade so far.

Their follow up Come to Mexico is out next month:

The other songs they've been playing live from this are killer too.
