Mel C has such a distinctive voice. I don't think they can get away with her not being there

The backstreet boys have so many good members! Every time I try to pick a fave I just can't. Like I discard Nick as an option but aside from him I  them all. Like Brian is my obv first choice but then there's AJ and I remember the SORROW when they announced he was going to rehab, and then I feel like I gotta root for Howie cause slaaaay Latinos!, and then there's Kevin and his power brows! How can I choose????

why the hell didn't I know about this :(

also, why do you discard Nick???
huge soft spot for him since he's the only one who has spoken of the abuse he/they have faced, and clearly still struggles with the issues it caused him.

I started searching for this thread thinking I would talk about the my2k tour and it took me so long to find that I figured screw it I have to post about it now haha

So Friday I went to the My2k tour (98 Degrees, Otown, Ryan Cabrera & Dream)
I got tickets off of groupon so they were in the last section of seats before the lawn.
When I got there it was SO empty. Dream performed for a very scarce crowd and I honestly felt bad for them. I enjoyed them but could hardly see to be honest haha. But of course I jammed to He Loves U Not.
After Dream, it started thundering and then raining. Then all of a sudden the heavens opened up and it was pouring. They made an announcement for everyone in the back to head to the front and huddle together because the lightning was getting insane. Even though the stage and seats are covered, we all got completely soaked because the rain was coming in sideways.
They basically tore down the stage and we all sat in whatever seats we could find.

I ended up having a friend in section 6 (the section right behind the pit...which was also seats) who saved a seat for me so I headed up there. The rain was coming down for a while and then it finally let up. They came out a few times to thank us for being patient and to let us know that the show would continue once the storm passed.

We ended up sitting there for almost 2 hours waiting. Finally 98 degrees came out and thanked us again for being patient and announced that due to the delay, Ryan Cabrera wouldn't be performing. I was pretty dang bummed by this. I wish he could have just played his hits, they could have cut Otowns set short I thought.

Alas a little old lady came up and the bouncer said I was in her seat and asked to see my ticket so I casually walked away and grabbed a spot a few rows up. At this point NO ONE was in their assigned seats so it really didn't matter.
Remember I said it was empty...well after everyone filled in the seats, the front sections were ALMOST full but not quite...and the entire back sections of seats were COMPLETELY empty. It was definitely the most empty concert I've ever been to, and it made me sad.

Anyway once Otown came on I was convinced even more that they should have cut their set short. I didn't know going into it that Ashley Parker Angel, the lead guy, isn't even in the group anymore (he's in the traveling performance of Wicked, which is awesome!) Anyway the group pretty much stunk. Furthermore they started playing covers! I was like, they couldn't cut the covers from their set and let Ryan play a few songs acoustically or something? Idk.
Overall I didn't enjoy Otown very much but their one hit song was great of course.

Then 98 degrees came on and honestly they've still got it haha. They came out in matching outfits which was equal parts embarrassing and perfect. They had synchronized dance moves (actually all the bands did!) but it was cute.

Now half way through their set they began going on about how the night was about a trip back to the 90s and then they brought up TRL and played a medley of songs from back in the day. Clips from the original videos and TRL played on a screen in the background. They played LFO, Britney Spears, Backstreet Boys, NSYNC, spice girls, sugar ray and even blink 182 (saying "you haven't made it until someone makes fun of you" ie the all the small things video). It was honestly great even though I know I just complained about Otown playing covers. The way they did the whole medley and incorporated it into the theme of the night was just right.
However it made me a little sad because the crowd was way more excited for the BSB and Nsync songs than they were for any of 98 degrees own songs haha so that had to have stung a little.
They also played a few songs as tribute to Prince including the party like its 1999 song which was obviously perfect.
Nick also played his one big solo hit which was nice.

All in all they were super entertaining and I enjoyed seeing them. I have a collection of snapchat videos that I can turn into one long video on youtube, if anyone is interested but I doubt it since they are only 10 second clips haha.

Anyway I doubt anyone read this novel but if you did I hope you found it entertaining lol

    omg Jude is killing me

I was so obsessed with Ashlee when she first came out. I always felt like the outsider ugly "edgy" (lol) sister compared to my beautiful popular older sister so I related to Ashlee. Not that I thought she was ugly but I related to definitely feeling less glamorous and beautiful than your sister. Shadow was my anthem lol.

I love both!! Well I only know Jessica's singles but I love all of the ones I've heard. Both had great reality shows! Ashlee not knowing how to use a broom, Jessica not knowing what Chicken of the Sea was. Iconic.

    hahaha omg.

Also yeah I was showing my friend Ryan's videos because she had never heard him (what?!?!) and it was like a blast from the past. I was like don't you remember he dated Ashlee and was on her show??? And then boom Ashlee appeared in the video and I was like OMG this is so 2000s.

edited to add: I feel like I've said this multiple times on here and AP lol but I found ALL of Newlyweds on Youtube and binge watched the whole damn thing. It was a serious trip down memory lane. Totally interesting to watch as an adult, as well. A new perspective for sure.
Some things will never change, though. Like her saying "but buffalos don't have wings?"

Honestly that era of reality tv was peak. Everyone was messy and while I'm sure things were scripted and edited a LOT, it had a less polished feel. Like Britney and her Chaotic show, Newlyweds, Rock of Love, Flavor of Love, Charm School, House of Carters, etc was just good tv!
