Remember to throw weapons at people. Even guns. It stuns then if it’s a gun. Kills them if it’s a blade/brick/bottle etc. It buys you time to run up to them and execute them/get across the room to cover for a better weapon. Don’t always go for an execution - it’s tempting but sometimes it just gets you killed. Make sure the coast is clear.

Also pick what mask you wear carefully. Some have excellent stat increases and bonuses that sway the fights in your favour. For example starting the mission with a gun, extra speed, doors killing people, dogs being friendly, extra secrets, etc. This is a hugeeee point many people overlook, thinking they’re solely there for aesthetic reasons. They can net you all sorts of bonuses.

If it’s points you’re worrying about then you’ve really gotta be quick. Look at the layout and see how you can chain together combos. Enemies in close proximity can be knocked down together with weapons, or indeed by doors - just do everything you can in quick succession. If you’re not after top rank/platinum then just take your time when possible. Some enemies will rush you, like the fat boss guy. You can only kill those folk with shotguns.

Finally LOCK ON TO ENEMIES. Also hugely important. No good wasting ammo or throwing things if you don’t lock on. Learning how to quickly lock on to enemies as you bust into a room is key. Some masks (I believe maybe the giraffe) let you see more of the rooms outside your periphery and increase fov - another mask worth considering once you earn it.

Also fuck I gotta listen to the soundtrack again. Both the original and the sequel have ridiculously good soundtracks unffff. I’d love a third game. But apparently it’s not gonna happen.

Hearing all this praise for Death Stranding is making me so sad. I really wanna play lmao. Need to get lost in another game, and while I’m enjoying CoD, it’s more rage-inducing than anything ha.

I don’t think I’ve ever felt as immersed in a game as I have with BioShock and RDR2. And I’m not trying to prompt the usual RDR2 comments - I’m saying I personally was consumed by that world and everything it had to offer, to the point where I had to 100% it.

With BioShock I was just completely gripped in the setting and era, the concepts it raised, the soundtrack and aesthetic, the atmosphere - it all just blew me away. I genuinely don’t think another game can come close to how that made me feel. It gave me chills and I just cannot praise that game enough, despite the unnecessary boss battle at the end. And my refusal to play BioShock Infinite.

With RDR2 it was the world-building - the incredible detail and the little stories you’d stumble upon while exploring. Like the body of the scorned lover you find propped against a wagon, only to discover she had walked in on her husband cheating and murdered them both. The random university rejection letter in the middle of nowhere responding to a murder threat with a shovel should they not be allowed in, then finding the body later on...with a shovel sticking out of it. The cult stuff, the alien references, the allusions to zombies, the abandoned towns, the ghosts, VAMPIRES, giants and meteor strikes ffs. There were so many of these instances that the game didn’t guide you to or hold your hand for, allowing you to experience it for yourself and just ahhhh. Immersed the fuck outta me. I had to discover as much as possible.

I know neither game is perfect, but I fucking adore them both and need an experience that’s gonna live up to that. For me, DS’s huge world seems like it could be a contender. Even though I probably wouldn’t understand the story at all.

If I remember right it’s a case of like flicking through them with the sticks? It’s been a while. Platinumed those games and haven’t been back to them since as that whole process fucked up my hands ROYALLY for a while haha.

Yeah, the terminals were great. As were the vault experiments. Shame there wasn’t a whole lot of substance beyond that.
