This. They set up Bray to be in HIAC before the previous PPV even ran...meaning you had a plan at that point. If this was always the plan, that Bray wouldnt win, it was an impossibly stupid idea.

Brock Lesnar returned, won the title in 9 seconds, and then was set up for a major feud. They can push someone in a big way if they want, just not Bray apparently.

 

But it doesn't. Dynamite isn't going to have viewers siphoned off by something like the mlb playoffs every week. It is significantly easier for them to regain the couple hundred thousand they lost as a consequence of two deciding playoff games(which pulled in ~6 million viewers) than it is for smackdown to regain a million after running two hyped up shows against much less competition. That is to say, to your earlier point, most of those smackdown viewers are lost for good because they were tuning in casually to begin with. Conversely, the kind of people tuning into AEW are more hardcore wrestling fans and therefore won't have been lost for good.

 

you could just as easily say aew had 400k lapsed fans tune into week one and realize it wasn't for them so they didn't come back. its been two weeks though, we literally have no idea how large aew's fanbase actually is yet.

 

I actually suspect this is the case. Not that they wont come back, but that weekly wrestling isnt in their life anymore, so a bigger event will draw them away. WWE lost like 2million viewers in the last 2-3 years; its very easy to imagine that being like 50% or more of AEW's fan base.

Makes AEW susceptible to big other events (big NBA game on ESPN, MLB playoffs, bowl games, presidential debates, etc), but also gives them some breathing room to grow as well. Either way, they're still WAY ahead of where anyone expected them to be and comfortably ahead of NXT.

 

Just send Sami, KO, Bayley, and Ember back to NXT and I can pretend the main roster doesnt exist.

Seems like for Gulak, they'll make him a Damien sandow jobber type who has a promo every other week and has Lars come out and pin him in 10 seconds.

 

There's probably a decent amount of wrestling fans who hate the wwe product but also don't want to give aew a chance, they just love complaining and being miserable.
