Vol. 2 is great. Made in China shit isn't.

on that note I wonder if she's contractually obligated at this point or nah?

I went from thinking Clarity was pretty whatever to digging it a ton now. Turn Off the Light is super fun too. Just wish Dr. Luke would fuck off forever.

  17. A tour with Camila Cabello sounds about right, she truly has no moral compass.

Oh come on @Petit nain des Îles are you really going to stay on this Camila hate train? She did one of the most genuine apologies for her past as a child that I have seen. PLUS all the real world action she takes, the good she does in the world... are you just going to harp on her no matter what kind of positive changes she makes in her life? I'm actually curious, because what I have seen from the "cancel culture" around Camila, there's nothing she can ever do that will satisfy the masses.

song is alright, not my favorite tbh.
I feel like she's been doing a ton of european tours!

  20. I'm stunned by your dismissive take to be honest. This got long but I wanted to make sure you're aware of all the surrounding context, and that I wasn't coming in bad faith.

What was genuine about it? It felt like another half-assed non-apology that pops up when someone is called out for similar reasons. I didn't read anything that makes me feel like she saw the wrong in her actions. There weren't any mentions of the exact people she has hurt! It was way too vague and dripping with platitudes.

The context makes it worse too, like how she immediately tried to take the tumblr down... almost like she didn't want it to be acknowledged? Or if you think about it, back in Fifth Harmony, Normani had to delete her twitter because of racist slurs and threats thrown at her, and Camila simply posted a vague and lightweight tweet to defend her, meanwhile her own racist posts remained. I want to believe she's grown since, but the fact she didn't go back and delete them until it was too late is suspicious.

Did you take a look at what she actually posted at the time? It wasn't just one or two edgy teenager jokes, she was consistently blogging overtly racist stuff. The age excuse is a cop-out at this point. I'm about the same age as her. I was ignorant on way too many things when I was 15 too, but race issues and police violence against black people were already all over the news in 2012. I'm not even living in the same country, and I knew about the shootings that were happening overseas.

This situation could have been handled so much better. Instead of making up excuses, using her age or her ignorance to cover it up, all she had to do was own up to being racist, and show how she is going to change that in the future. Look at Slayyyter, who has similarly been caught with a racist past. After a clumsy first attempt, she properly adressed it, and this is what she's currently doing:

It's not my place, as a white person, to tell whether the latter's apology was enough or not. However, this at least shows she gives a shit about the harm she has done, and intends to take steps to repair it. It sets an example, especially coming from someone with a much smaller fanbase and a career in stake.

Camila's career is certainly not going away though. Most people minimize those issues when made aware of them, and cancel culture hasn't shown any evidence of existing in the music industry, so I expect her to keep making more money than all of us anyway. She's not a victim in this case, so the coddling seems... inappropriate.

That said, my prior post was made because the first thing that came to mind was this pivotal performance:

The betrayal. To see her tour with Kim, who still works with Dr. Luke and has thrown Kesha under the bus several times, is disgusting. It's such a bad look all around for both, and I can't stay quiet about it.

Sorry if I came off as dismissive, I just honestly think her statement was from her heart and apologetic and was genuinely curious to hear from you on it. I personally read the statement and felt that she was genuinely sorry, but that's just my own take on it. I don't know about the attempt to take her tumblr down, so I can't comment there. I did attempt to read what her old tweets were, but there were so many fake ones going around that I truly didn't know what she actually posted. If you have links to the posts, I'd certainly read them.

That being said, I completely hear you here and hope that she does better in the future.

I also did not put two in two together about that performance, Kesha, Luke and Kim... that's definitely a bad look and unfortunate.

New song was written by Dr. Luke = not listening.

  23. The original tweet that exposed all of this should show up as a thread but it's broken for some reason. Instead, it starts here:

The links to the original tumblr posts don't work as someone then managed to hack it after the posts were deleted by Camila herself. Like I said, if she did this, it shows she remembered her password or at least still had access to the account all this time. She chose to not do anything about it until the damage was done, and that couldn't be more suspicious.

Yeah, those posts are definitely bad, and unfortunately indicitive of internet culture in 2012. It sucks that she participated and I wish she didn't. I think at this point you and I just are happy or not with her response. Plus the Luke-Kesha BS that you pointed out, which is super shitty.

I dunno, maybe I'm just too naive and see the best in people and believe her, maybe I shouldn't be that way, I just feel like from what we know (very little, as she is a public figure), she has become a better person and has proven it with her action.

  25. No I mean I get it. I want to assume the best intentions as well, but I've been burned too many times by other artists I tend to notice some red flags right away. I do hope she's learned something from all of this.

As for Kim... my thoughts are way more complicated haha. Following her career is both fascinating and frustrating.
