The songs part was impossible, but here’s what I submitted to Pitchfork.

This is impossible, I'm sure there is something I will be mad at myself for missing, but here is my best guess:

Kanye West- My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy (2010)

The Dear Hunter- The Color Spectrum (2011)

-This feels like cheating since it is so much music, but I have to keep it.

The Menzingers- On the Impossible Past (2012)

The Wonder Years- The Greatest Generation (2013)
-Not my favorite TWY record in hindsight, but I loved it more than anything when it was fresh.

Chance the Rapper- Coloring Book (2016)

    Frank Ocean- Blonde (2016)

    The Hotelier- Goodness (2016)

Manchester Orchestra- A Black Mile to the Surface (2017)

The Menzingers- After the Party (2017)

Barndi Carlile- By the Way, I Forgive You (2018)

Realizing now that I left off “Elephant”, which was stupid.

    I’m guessing my 8 and 9?

Full disclosure: I had three Isbell songs on there.

But yes, those are the two. I can't fault you for any of these picks, though. All great songs.

I have a chronological top 30 (I've been working on a top 100 list, but about 30 have risen to the top of that list). The bolded items are what I'd consider my top 10 right now. I know for sure that Some Nights, My Dinosaur Life, and After Laughter are 1, 2, and 3.
    1. Motion City Soundtrack: My Dinosaur Life (2010)
    2. Kanye West: My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy (2010)
    3. All Time Low: Dirty Work (2011)
    4. The Maine: Pioneer (2011)
    5. Fun.: Some Nights (2012)
    6. Alabama Shakes: Boys & Girls (2012)
    7. Taylor Swift: Red (2012)
    8. Paramore: Paramore (2013)
    9. The Front Bottoms: Talon Of the Hawk (2013)
    10. Miley Cyrus: Bangerz (2013)
    11. Lady Gaga: Artpop (2013)
    12. Lana Del Rey: Ultraviolence (2014)
    13. Modern Baseball: You’re Gonna Miss It All (2014)
    14. Say Anything: Hebrews (2014)
    15. Bleachers: Strange Desire (2014)
    16. Father John Misty: I Love You, Honeybear (2015)
    17. Turnover: Peripheral Vision (2015)
    18. Miley Cyrus & Her Dead Petz: Dead Petz (2015)
    19. David Bowie: Blackstar (2016)
    20. Kanye West: The Life of Pablo (2016)
    21. Mitski: Puberty 2
    22. Frank Ocean: Blonde (2016)
    23. Paramore: After Laughter (2017)
    24. The Maine: Lovely Little Lonely (2017)
    25. Lorde: Melodrama (2017)

    29. Kali Uchis: Isolation (2018)
    30. Lana Del Rey: Norman Fucking Rockwell! (2019)
Edit: I already realize I'm missing some from looking at other lists so this is a rough draft. (The Greatest Generation comes to mind.)

I always forget that Autre Ne Veut exists (that second album kinda sucked, too), but you're right, Play by Play is definitely one of the best songs of the decade.

Anxiety was the second album! So I assume you're talking about Age of Transparency which is also an absolutely brilliant album imo. I was always bummed at how it was received generally but I love the risks he took with it and the fact that he didn't just make Anxiety 2.

Dang, I've never heard the first album then, always assumed Anxiety was the debut. Admittedly I probably didn't give that third one it's fair shot, but the few times I did listen to it, there was nothing that really drew me back.

    Guessing...

    "Elephant"
    "If We Were Vampires"
    "Relatively Easy"?

  16. Craig Manning

    @FurtherFromSky Moderator

“Cover Me Up” is my number one! I had “Vampires” and “Elephant” too. “Speed Trap Town” and “Relatively Easy” would be close, but I figured that would be overkill.

I don’t think I can do songs, at least not in a ranked format. Too much work.

I’m still debating if I want to rank my albums list. It could be fun, but it could also be infuriating.

I think it’s a really vulnerable album that’s genuinely helped by the stripping back of the clean pop tendencies of Anxiety (though this seems to be why most don’t like it). I would definitely recommend giving it another shot! The Body EP is very good too if you haven’t heard that.

What I find weird about GvB posting their list already is that there’s artists on that list who are still confirmed to be releasing stuff this year. Feels like if you think project x by an artist is worth being on there then maybe it’s worth waiting to hear what else they’ve got.

    Also, September.
