Kill was probably the first JEW song that really hit me hard

I couldn't get remotely close to that number today with any new albums, and doubt I ever will again. But this was pre-iPod and when my music library was still pretty small, and I connected to that album and leaned on it like nothing else I'd ever heard. I played it no joke every day after school, and probably usually more than once.

I see what you did there.

Haha, but seriously, the closest I've ever gotten to that type of thing was probably American Idiot when I got it in the spring of 2005. I was only 10 and it was the only CD I had, so I carried it around everywhere in my discman playing it nonstop. Good times.

I was like that with the second Busted album and MCR's Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge. Easily my two most played albums.

Incidentally, American Idiot was the other album I was playing all the time in the fall of 2004. Those two, and the first records from Keane and The Killers were more or less my rotation.

I was also like that with Heavier Things the year before, which actually was the first CD I ever bought with my own money. I played that one almost daily too, but I didn't have quite the same intense connection to it that I had with Futures, so I don't think it got quite as much play. Still probably one of my five most played albums ever though.

The other albums I remember wearing the shit out of were Linkin Park's Hybrid Theory and Meteora, A Change of Pace's Prepare the Masses, and The Offspring's Rise and Fall, Rage and Grace. Haha, once I got into my last couple years of high school and then college, my listening habits really changed and I stopped listening to individual albums so heavily.

It's crazy to me now because even with albums I adore like the new 1975 album I can't listen to it that much without burning out on it. I had nothing but that in my car for a few months and I must have listened to it like 60 something times before I had to just have the radio on because I didn't want to ruin the album for myself, haha.

It doesn't get much talk anymore, and those guys have kind of disappeared, but yeah, I still really love that album too. Some absolutely massive songs on that album.

Every now and then I listen to it and I always have the same reaction of "wow, this is so good, I really wish I liked their other stuff this much".

It's weird...The 1975 put out by far my favorite album of the year so far, and yet I've only listened to it like... 20-30 times maybe? Way more than any other album released this year, but it seems like I've aged past the days of being completely obsessed with a record for weeks at a time. So strange how that works.

Yeah, my most played is probably Brian Fallon and that maybe is at 40. I could see the new Butch Walker getting pretty high up in plays by the end of the year, but probably not breaking 100. I just have way more stuff to listen to now though.

I really liked Strangeland, but all of their albums after that first one were like half as good, at best. They just knocked it out of the park on that first album.

I definitely focus more on quantity of albums rather than spending a lot of time with one in particular, since I want to keep up with everything being released. Lately I've wondered though if that's hurting my enjoyment of music in general, so that's something I need to be cognizant of. It's all a balance that's difficult to find.

This is something I'm starting to worry about. I missed a lot of music because I wasn't allowed to listen to non-religious music until right before I turned 18 basically (So I basically had Relient k, Anberlin, The Classic Crime and The Almost I listened to). So for the past couple years it's been like I'm playing catch up getting all the albums from all the bands I'm finding out about kind of late, and also trying to keep with new releases. So I never really spend a lot of time with stuff, and sometimes I feel like maybe I'm hurting my enjoyment by moving along so quickly.

Like, before I was allowed music I had like 10 CD's I owned, now I have about 300. So I've gotten about 290 over 2 and a half years. Doesn't seem like it leaves much room for a lot of returning to stuff.

Yeah... it's hard to balance for sure, and I'm still figuring it out. I've definitely done better this year at going through new albums at a more deliberate pace ... I'm just now hitting 100 new albums for the year whereas I hit 100 on the first day of May last year. Unfortunately there just haven't been as many that have stuck with me this year anyway, so it's been sort of hard to test out the "new balance". I will say I've returned to a lot more 2015 albums this year because of that though, which I've been really happy with because 2015 was an absolutely stacked year IMO.

100 new albums in a year? Damn. Haha I guess I've gotten 100 albums per year (mostly old) at least since I started, but I'm only at like 11 new albums for the year. I have found myself finding a good few 2015 releases I missed this year though. But, as a whole my music has slowed down due to health issues that became money issues. I'm sticking a lot more to what I know than ever before. How do you keep track of that much though? Like, I imagine if it's new albums, that means 100 different bands/artists too.

I keep a list like what they have over in the 2016 Albums Thread. Just a list of what albums I listened to and an approximate rating of how much I enjoyed them. As the year progresses, I check out anything that slightly piques my interest. Worst case is I don't like it and don't listen to it again, but that method has helped me find a ton of stuff I wouldn't have listened to otherwise - like that Beach House record last year that was one of my favorites of the year and introduced me to that band.

That's interesting. So you just check it out on Spotify or something? For some reason I don't fully enjoy music without owning it (probably because of a guilt trip I got as a kid for torrenting.haha) so I've never gotten into streaming much.

Yep, I'll listen to it on Apple Music or download the leak if it's out there before going up on Apple Music. I'll buy the CD if I really like it (though I'm buying much fewer physical albums these days), don't really bother with buying digital at all, I don't see a point in it.

I forgot about Apple music. Haha I've gotten bad (or good depending on the way you look at it) with leaks because I am too distracted to know when they happen. Haha To make this post less high jacking the thread; if JEW announces an album this year, I will be watching Kingdom-Leaks like a hawk. This bands next move intrigues me more than pretty much any others.

Heh, when JEW releases an album that's a CD I'll be buying.

I will sell my kidneys if that's what it takes. This band along being great, has some of the most positive/nice fans of any bands I've gotten into, which makes me get more into them since I don't feel like I could be "wrong" for any of my opinions.

Same thing happened with Dance Gavin Dance who's fans are so nice, I literally said "I think this band has awful lyrics" on Reddit and everyone was like "That's okay man, I totally get it. Even if I love them" (but written 60 different ways). Haha Basically, good fans make good bands better and JEW has some of the best.

I swear, the Dance Gavin Dance subreddit is the only truly positive place on that whole site. I have no idea how they managed it.
