Does anyone else notice any similarities in The First Time intro to Jimmy Eat World?

Also, I just discovered the other day that TOYPAJ is the first punk-rock (or punk rock adjacent whatever) record to be the number 1 record in the US. Crazy.

Wild. I figured Dookie would have been #1, but apparently it peaked at #2.

Why aren't we talking more about the killer lead guitar after the bridge of On Some Emo...

When I read that I had the same thought "surely Dookie was a number one record" lol

Of course people can argue it's not a punk rock record or whatever but the lineage of the band is clear enough that even if the album is poppy and really sleek production wise it can still fit that definition.

Good insight on these about the record being made, Matt feeling more comfortable, and Travis realizing they’ll never make all blink fans happy no matter what they do

I feel great about this record considering I cringe whenever I see someone's rankings. It hurts me to say "Happy Days" or "Black Rain" or "Blame It On My Youth" would be in my bottom half considering I love all three of them. haha.

Dat double-time in the second chorus of First Time

  16. Since someone pointed it out, I can't unhear Mark's tongue roll on the first line of "Hungover You." Haha.

The bridge of Run Away hits though Untitled-type weirdness that I’ve been waiting for.

    House of Protect Ron.

It's one of my favorite moments on the whole record. I think it would have been awesome if they would have extended that part and had a big drum solo at the end. ( similar to I'm Lost Without You) I would have loved if this was the last song on the album. The only track with just the members of Blink closing out the record.

They do that kind of thing several times throughout the record and I love it. They reuse a vocal part from earlier in the song and throw tons of reverb on it or make it sound trippy. The outro sections of "Run Away" and "Hungover You" come to mind.

One of the other things that gets me on this record is where they trade off the same vocal parts. For example, Mark sings the chorus of "Heaven" but then Matt sings the very last one. Also, Mark sings Matt's part in the very last chorus of "Hungover You", and the very end of "On Some Emo Shit" where Mark sings an abbreviated version of Matt's chorus is just perfect.

I’ll also throw on the moment in Heaven during the first verse where instead of echoing what mark just sang, Matt is echoing what marks next line is

I am still convinced that Heaven is one of Mark's best songs ever. He owns the chorus so hard. It gives me chills every time.
