When there are numerous accounts of scummy behaviour spanning multiple years, don’t you think that maybe, just maybe the accused might in fact be a shitty individual?

There are a multitude of reasons to believe the survivor. For starters, the number of fabricated allegations when compared to those that did transpire are staggeringly low. Beyond that, the individual in power (take MJK, for example) doesn’t need your support. They have legions of fans who don’t give half a shit about any allegations and would preach his innocence irregardless of the situation. The survivor doesn’t have this. The survivor is the one sitting at home dealing with the pain he caused them, while the internet drags their name through the mud and calls them a slew of horrible things for speaking their truth. Meanwhile, their abuser continues touring the world, having a platform, and making ungodly amounts of money, all while more than likely hurting more along the way.

You may think you’re being impartial, but when you make public statements like you did above, you’re wilfully taking the side of the abuser. These things are incredibly difficult to “prove,” and the proof you’re looking for will almost certainly never come.

Where there’s smoke, there’s fire. MJK is a scumbag. If you choose to turn a blind eye to that, that’s on you.

Beyond all of the other shit out there about MJK, his cop apologia and how he carries himself is enough for me to write Tool off to be honest.

I agree with what you said but not all the way with this statement. I've encountered multiple instances where women falsely accused men in order to hurt them.

It reminds me a lot of the episode in South Park when Cartman had "anxiety". This ia not a matter that should be questioned when someone brings it up but in the past few years many people are using it as "shortcuts" and it's making it real hard for the ones who do suffer from it.

While I'm sure your personal anecdotes cause you to think one way, the fact of the matter using peer-reviewed academic sources it this: false accusations are exceedingly rare regardless of the source you cite. One meta-analysis has it at 2-10% depending on the source. The most recent FBI data has it at 8%.

While this is something that's seen some increased scrutiny since the rise of the metoo movement, this shit is still rare. Maybe it's just the crowds I run with, but if someone tells me this has happened to them - I'm gonna believe them.

Of course it depends on the credibility of the source and if it's someone you know than the credibility factor is much clearer.

I have a friend who told me that a very famous person tried to attack her (every one here knows the famous person. She posted it on FB without mentioning his name but she told me who he is privately. She doesn't want this to come out from her so don't ask who it is) after an event about 10 years ago. If it was some random woman on the internet i would not come to an immediate conclusion but this is a friend and i know she won't make up something like this.

Also, if you immediately believe accusers that you don't personally know then you are encouraging the false accusers to do their thing.

I believe accusers I don’t know because...if they’re wrong, oh well, that really sucks and they’re a scummy person, but if they’re right, I didn’t doubt them and supported them from the start. It’s a win-win regardless.

To reiterate what I said in my previous posts and distill it down into a singular statement: I'm apt to believe survivors because regardless of how well I know them because it's rare and they have have little positive things to gain from making an accusation.

I'm not gonna to respond to this further because I already feel like I'm beating a dead horse here.

  17. What people are saying is "start from a position of believing" not "don't analyze the facts/circumstances." Of course facts should be analyzed, but if you do that from a position of support for survivors, you're starting from the right spot. There's plenty of examples of this exact mindset, some very recent. Creating this straw-man, of some uncritical-willfully-ignorant-to-facts, to burn, is completely unhelpful.

(Oh, and South Park's a shitty source for most things, but their politics on important issues are actively harmful.)

Can't believe people actually use South Park as a legitimate source for any argument let alone when it has to deal with any sort of abuse. For fucks sake what has our society come to.
