There’s some talk about it in the Netflix/streaming thread, and there are critiques in there that might shed light on why it’s not a gigantic 50 page hit.

Yeaaah like. He had so many comedic relief moments later on that I wanted to enjoy but really left me feeling like “why are they trying to redeem him?” Like...why? So many of those jokes could have been given to other characters OR a different character could have done the original first episode thing. It just frustrates me so much that they have tons of non-redeemable-esque characters, but they gave the sexual assault to the one they tried to play off as comedy later.

I think this would've been the best...because I need the slow motion dolphin scene in my life forever. I legit cried I was laughing so hard.

Lmao omg that was ROUGH as soon as I figured out what was happening I had to hide my eyes

But yeah I agree, there were funny parts that were just ruined Bc it was him. Stop trying to make him likeable, Amazon!! You literally introduced him to us as a rapist likeeee give us someone else to laugh at

The fact they sent him to Ohio is also hilarious. Like, there's an amazing story to tell about being the one churned out from the machine...just don't make it the spoiler you mentioned.

    SO funny. And yeah exactly!!

I feel like they pulled a gossip girl Chuck Bass (which is ironic since he’s from gossip girl lol) and I hate that shit.
Doubt anyone in here will get that reference but imagine similar first episode antics and then the entire show growing to revolve around his relationship (that fans were supposed to root for)
It’s just so gross bc abusers DO go on to be in relationships and stuff, so there is a way I think to show that without it being this unpacked mess.

I never understood why Chuck became the hearthrob of the show. it was clearly nate and all his issues hiding behind his bangs. xoxo g-lem

matches the level of discussing the hotness of characters on a long-cancelled show with no connection to this one other than minor casting tbh

Minor casting?? He’s literally a lead in both shows ya dork AND if you read, I very clearly compare a common theme between the two shows. Aka a pretty thoughtful connection about the way media portrays rape and redemption but like please go on and judge the last reply that was a joke about the show. By all means.

I found the fishman jokes funnier because he sucks. Like lol look at that assholes life going to shit. The dolphin scene is one of my favourites of the whole show.

Watched the whole show yesterday and today and I absolutely loved it, the entire 8 hours held my attention without even checking my phone for the most part which is big for me lol.

Great humor and action, and the acting was great too, especially Homelander. He absolutely blew me away, I can't remember the last time I hated a character but also actively looked forward to all of his scenes like that.

Loved this a lot, already can't wait for the second season, especially since Aya Cash is joining the cast

Also the actor that plays Hughie looks like a young Michael Shannon

The first book is available to read for free for Prime. The show actually improved upon the content.

It was very interesting to me that it was Homelanded, A-Train, and Black Noir who did THAT SCENE with Starlight and the Deep wasn’t involved at all. Which makes me wonder if that’s where the writing is hiccuping with him because it might be following his parts in later books.

But also like I have no desire to read the other 11 books at all after the first one. The show is telling the story way better and “less edgy.”

  19. Watched the first 2 eps last night. Really digging the show so far. I'm a little concerned with how they're going to deal with a couple things, but I'll wait until I finish watching it all.

Just finished this, really enjoyed it. Wasn't expecting it to be so political, but it was very clear where they were going with that stuff.

    Die rad.

My girlfriend made me watch this with her as I'm not really a binge streamer, but I was pleasantly surprised at how much I liked it. We are four episodes in.

I just finished the season and these are pretty much my exact thoughts.
would love some more characters that are women and/or people of colour. also give Kimiko some actual dialogue and Queen Maeve more than 8 lines for an entire season.

I definitely enjoyed the more cynical take on superheroes though. Homelander is a great villain. every scene with Deep talking to marine life was hilarious, I had no idea Chace Crawford knew how to be funny. it would have worked better if they had made him just a dumbass and not a sexual predator tho.

I definitely could have done with fewer conventional tropes of the superhero genre (Hughie and Annie's whole relationship, fridging the girlfriends, all the "saved at the last minute" moments). and Simon Pegg's character was basically nothing?

despite my complaints I enjoyed it and I think overall it's a pretty good show, I'll def be watching the next season

the more I'm thinking about it the more I think that Deep getting assaulted by that girl was supposed to be like "justice" or something for what he did to Annie which if so... not okay with that
I'm also just speculating here :shrug2:

Pegg's cameo was more just a nod to the comics where his likeness is used for the son--someone he's now too old to play.
