I'm a Far Cry fan but the game just looks bland to me. Metacritic average is a 78, so it's not a bad game by any stretch or anything based off critical consensus, but doesn't align with a user rating of 4.5. (Metacritic average is a 63 as well)

I'm saying the averages may be whatever, but users tend to the highest or negative end of the score spectrum. Only thing I look for in user reviews is performance issues/game breaking bugs.

But I'm also a picky bitch, so what do I know.

I also don't like to make comments on games BEFORE I ACTUALLY PLAY THEM. And if they're broken I wait until they're not. (Battlefield 4 and AC Unity for example. Doesn't excuse their bad launches, but it doesn't mean they're terrible games overall).

 

I'd get Primal for 20

 

It'll be on a deep discount during the winter steam sale I'd imagine.

 

My PC wouldn't be able to handle it and also I'd trade it in eventually so yeah I keep my steam library really small. A dozen of the 30 games on there are Sonic from the humble bundle.

 

So much junk in my steam library by buying games I'd otherwise have little to no interest in.

Got Subnautica and played it for 30 minutes before I realized that my fear of water in games was still very much a thing.

 

Got SOMA in the week 2 PSN sale for 60% off, pretty happy about that.

this is such a sad reflection of the gaming industry as a whole.

also before anyone gets at ME, ironically, saying they probably did it on purpose, that's pretty funny. it's not like they wouldn't notice. and no, i'm not a fangirl of them as i would gain nothing from acting that way. and i'm pretty much with what this girl is saying (and read the whole thread)

oh i saw that. (maybe im looking too much into it) but either A) it wasn't a mistake and now they back tracking hard or B) it was a mistake but they didnt bother testing the survey out with a single female before releasing it. either way is insane to me.

though knowing ubisoft i guess it is likely they made a survey and didnt bother testing it once them selves and released it to the public.

Why would they want to reject statistics gained from female participants? They want as much data as possible on their potential market. That's just not how businesses work.

I agree that the industry can be shitty about anyone that's not a white male, but implying intent here doesn't really fly.

 

I beat Inside today and now I'm just thinking about it all. Such a great game. It's an easy 1000gs to boot.

 

oh also, this is from Ubi's CEO - in the latest issue of Game Informer - about Vivendi. seems worrying

 

he's fear-mongering out of his own self-interest. Ubisoft haven't done anything creative or interesting in years.

 

I mean it's not fear-mongering if it's a very real possibility.

 

"what we fear the most is that they would destroy our model" -- "we'd be a totally different company than we are today" -- "taking away freedom from creators" and the other stuff.

real freedom is churning out annualised sequels, you heard it here first :D

 

Watch_Dogs is interesting. AC Syndicate is creative. Rayman Origins and Legends are both. Far Cry Primal is both. Debating on whether those are 'good' or have been executed well is another discussion. But you're pretty much wrong here.

Also, For Honor and Steep are coming up. If there's any big company right now that's doing a lot of new stuff it's them.

 

Yeah I'm not 100% sure I see the strategy in saying "our company which has become the punching bag of the gaming community might fold to corporate control" unless your company might actually do that

Far Cry Primal is a palette swap of a tried and true formula and an attempt at annualisation.

 

Haha I'd definitely interpret breaking the ubisoft model as a good thing. Though I'll give Ubi some credit and say there have been noticeable improvements to there output over the past year and a half or so.

Division was ambitious even if the post-launch support has been bad.

 

You know what's a great fucking Ubisoft game, @lightning13? Rainbow Six Siege.

 

It's not like GTA at all - what makes it GTA? Open world and driving cars? You might as well call Sleeping Dogs a GTA clone.
Being the 8th game in a row doesn't make it bad - it's the best in the series in years by far. Have you played through the game? I have, both story and side missions. I said what I felt about it just the other day.
Far Cry Primal is not just a palette swap. There are no guns, a new language was created, and you can tame animals. It was also the result of Ubi asking fans what they wanted. There was a survey about this. A palette swap is more accurate for Far Cry 4 compared to 3. This isn't your 'average Far Cry game'.

Can't speak to Assassin's Creed since the franchise never clicked with me.

But yeah Watch Dogs and FC:P are definitely not what I would point to as innovative titles.

Siege, Rayman, Division and even South Park are more interesting IPs
