Let's all ignore that the frontman of a band we like is a rapist because they're putting an album out, everyone! This is cool and normal behaviour!

 

Literally saying "nuh-uh anonymous allegations aren't enough I need more in this situation!!!!!1" and then in the same breath saying "rape is bad of course I support survivors!!!!!1" is some intergalactic hyperspace brain-level thinking right there

that rapist's band have announced their album, so everyone can keep ignoring him being a rapist in the band and album threads on here. great.

 

It's honestly kind of incredible how a site that very much collectively abandoned BN (outside of a few well-known and noted defenders) is just kind of collectively shrugging about Tool. I guess because JL admitted it while this scumbag is just ignoring it entirely and going on with his life like nothing's changed?

I've done my research and found a site that casts doubts due to an account being made on the same day around the same time accusing Trent Reznor of similar things, people claiming that it's a 4-chan esque troll. But that's all I've seen discounting it, and no one on this site pointed me in that direction. They're just ignoring it

The people ignoring the Tool thing would love to ignore the Brand New thing, a lot of them probably are. But not admitting to wrong doing and actively touring and releasing music is much more important than accountability. I guarantee if Brand New tried a comeback the same people would be defending them saying he's admitted he was wrong what else can he do before they check out the album.

 

I honestly haven’t heard about any of this until today

 

@ComedownMachine and I were talking about this yesterday. I’ve said this before but as a survivor of abuse and harassment, my experiences would not have mattered if the men who hurt me had any kind of platform. In fact, I would’ve informed their art! How sick and cruel is that? Do the Tool, Chris Brown, xxxtentacion, As I Lay Dying, Red Hot Chilli Peppers or Oli Sykes defenders know what it’s like to never feel safe? To feel like your abuser can make good on his threat to kill you at any moment? Of course not, they’re not thinking of the survivors AT ALL.

The worst part is that even if they’re called out, this thread turns on them, or they even fucking go to prison, these awful people get to come back and make music and tour. The only person who decides if an abuser deserves forgiveness is the survivor/s, none of their fans, none of their bandmates, not their god. Sorry.

These people don’t deserve their careers making art once they destroy lives. But, they do. Less than an album cycle later. A month later, selling out a venue in Melbourne in just half an hour. It feels utterly dejecting and sickening to feel like our fight for justice is falling on deaf ears constantly.

Oh, and if I have to hear “just emotional abuse” one more time, I will explode. I should not have to relive my trauma to make people give a shit about it.

Let me be as clear as possible: their music doesn’t matter. Your feelings towards their art doesn’t matter. Ending the cycle of abuse due to abuse of platforms that you’re privileged enough to have is all that matters.

It's crazy how BMTH has made this big musical shift and suddenly so many people seem to have forgotten what a huge piece of shit Oli has been in his life

Bums me out how many people on the site ignore and disregard things like this. And it happens constantly.

I’ve seen @OhTheWater and others raise awareness in NUMEROUS threads (not just the Tool one) and people just carry on with the discussion and ignore them.

I can probably count on both hands how many times I’ve seen this from people here.

 

It's like that everywhere. There's a reason so many people don't bother coming forward.
