Weird I hear no creepy attempt at seductive whispering on Darkside. I also hear great drums.

 

My disdain is not the instrument choice. The songs are so similar in style that I can’t not hear it. It sounds dated and is not exciting for me in 2019.

 

I feel like this is what happens when you have like 6 musical touch points to draw on - everything gets compressed down to those reference points.

The song has a dancy drum beat and a synthy sound yes, but it's still so far in style and context from gd Metro Station

 

Irony here, of course, being ... Sam Hollander ("BIOMY") wrote "Seventeen Forever" and his style is all over that Metro Station chorus. And "Darkness" is so clearly Mr. Goldfinger.

 

If you look at a better a blank white wall instead of the album art, Darkside might be less neon-y

 

I mean if your argument is pop-rock songs sound the same to you, then ... uh ... not sure what to say? Ok? I can't change what you're exposed to and how much pop-rock music you listen to, but they're very different to me in virtually every way. People always say all pop-punk/rock/whatever sounds the same ... I've never agreed cause I've always been too deep into it that I hear huge differences in style and songwriting.

 

I assumed we'd get more When Your Heart Stops Beating comparisons, not Metro Station.

 

Everybody I've said I like Darkside to has said it sounds like Metro Station lol

 

My buddy just described it to me as +44 with a more new-wave-y influence haha, I agree

 

But what if Tom uses his mysterious Moon Rock to turn Matt to the Darkside?

I remember when people were saying Jimmy Eat World sounded like Fall Out Boy. That's about the time I realized I think people are bad at musical comparisons.

I like the chorus melody and Matt's delivery is great but I absolutely LOATHE that fucking "disco" beat. Any song that has it just disgusts me haha.

Haven’t had internet for a week. Get service and my phone blows up from friends saying the new song sucks. I’m excited to listen to it though! Idk what to expect and that excites me the most i think lol
