Show last night was awesome. I laughed so much and they sounded really great

We got a little bit of a shorter setlist but Kevin and Andy did mention that "Chicago was more of a pro set and Detroit was more fun" I would assume because of all the banter in between songs

Songs they cut 42, Baby Shoes, and the cover that someone said they didn't really play anyway

Also, spoiler tagging that is kind of funny, considering there is only one song in their discography that could fit.

So they only played a single line from Baby Shoes in Chicago. Basically a girl yelled Baby Shoes!!! and Andy responded that unfortunately it wasn't on the setlist and she was obviously pretty drunk so eh, she wouldn't really remember it anyway. He then played a single line for her. We had a decent amount of banter, mostly regarding Randy. Let Her Cry was far from a full cover, it was just them playing with about half the song, singing in joking voices.

The show in Detroit last night was incredible. They also started to play the "Let Her Cry" cover but both Andy and Kevin forgot the words and just mummbled into each others eyes.. Fantastic haha. I was hoping to hear "Easy Mark and The Old Maid" but, oh well, everything else was superb.

A community access show called Midevenings with Jay Miller. Not sure if Kevin was friends with him or how he ended up getting on the show though.

    Edit:

    Second edit: Jesus, lol.

Q&A was brief, but successful & hilarious. Key factoids we learned:

    - There aren’t any recordings of alternate or full band versions of any songs off of III except Army
    - Army has been floating around since at least 2015. MO recorded a full band version but never did anything with it. Apparently it was a little “happier” sounding in that version but AH said it didn’t work.
    - They opted for the minimal sound of III because it was new territory for the band & felt the most interesting. They never second guessed it during the writing/recording process but got a little nervous when the thing was finished & they started sharing it with friends.
    - BB recorded some full band stuff in 2015 but it was too similar to stuff on I & II so they shelved it
    - They will reincorporate the rhythm & percussion elements in their sound in future records, along w Tim & the other dudes. All those guys are big fans of III
    - AH & KD were asked how they feel about Forest Whitaker being used in How I Met Your Mother & they both said “awesome, plus the $6 in royalties that come each month are great.”

Just got mine too. My favorite vinyl to buy are always the super low energy, chill records like this. Great to write to.

I will say that for anyone on the fence about attending a show on this run due to the lack of percussion it was barely noticeable. The way they cranked through some of their louder tracks in this incarnation was done in a way to avoid any energy loss. Thinking specifically about tracks like After Party, Holding Down the Laughter, & It Never Stops.

I was worried about that same thing but I agree. It was amazing. In Detroit they opened with After Party and it was nuts. I never liked the song as much as I do now because of how they played it.
