I think the biggest difference there was that Tom was not interested in playing with the other two and stepped back (whether he will admit it or not) while Bradley was the heart of Sublime and passed away. There's always that feeling that he would still be doing Sublime and could hypothetically feel disrespected by them moving on while Tom had every opportunity.

Then again, there are plenty of idiots that still have a problem with Mark and Travis moving on.

I feel like the Bored to Death music video would have worked better for Teenage Satellites

A week of listening to California and I can confirm that this is a classic blink-182 album. That is all

Track-by-Track with Feldman:Blink-182's 'California' Through Producer John Feldmann's Eyes: Track-By-Track

EDIT: The non-10 hour loop "Built This Pool" video on Blinks youtube page is gone. And in the above article on the Built This Pool page, it says "due to copyright.." blah blah blah by Rico Management. Interesting. Unless they linked to the wrong video or something. Not sure what's going on with that.

  6. and not only that, but apparently managers (or anyone at all) don't read what their writers are writing either.

Love the San Diego bit - Mark not wanting to write the song alluding to Tom/old blink management but Feldman forced him to write out of his comfort zone.

So this is in Feldmann's own words from the Track by Track on Kings of the Weekend. "This is another song we didn't think was going on the record. We had too many songs. When listening back with the whole team, the management, the label, we realized the riff is so good, it just felt right. There are no songs on the record that have a great, classic guitar riff that people will recognize and so [it stuck.] This was song number three, Travis raised his hand and trumped us all and reminded us that this is what Blink is, this epic guitar thing. It's not lyrically as deep some of the other songs, but it's the party song. We've all had day jobs and we all know what it's like to have that day off to do what we want, this is that song."

I will echo that sentiment. I'm digging this record, but definitely missing those classic guitar riffs (doesn't matter how simple they were).

Really enjoyed that track by track though. Thought it put a lot of the album in perspective and gave us good insight into what they were thinking about.

According to Feldy, Mark tracked the guitar on Built This Pool so I wonder if he did on any others. I wish liner notes weren't so vague and listed what people actually did

Yeah, judging by Feldmann's track by track sounds like Mark at least wrote a lot of guitar for the record.

Feldmann also confirmed that San Diego has to do with Tom. And then he went on trashing my home town :(

  14. After reading what Feldy had to say about " Left Alone " Matt deserves all the credit in the world for that song. Easily the best chorus on the album.

Feldmann's track-by-track is great. I enjoy hearing what went into creating the music and what everyone thinks of it, etc. Gives the songs a new identity when we listen to them again (and after the amount of plays I've given this album over the week, with the amazing weather, I appreciate being able to re-listen to them closer).

So many fucking typos in that Fuse article though haha. Do people even bother reading what they post or trust themselves too much? Lol, b/c they shouldn't.

Makes me even more excited for the EP. I was kind of worried that the EP would be/sound like a bunch of throwaways, but after reading the track by track, it seems like they had a hard time deciding which songs would and wouldn't make the cut so i'm sure there's a couple gems that we'll eventually hear and hopefully they're so good that i'll be reading lots of comments saying "THIS song should've been on the record instead" which makes me happy.

  19. And all of the inevitable re-imagined tracklists... haha

I was thinking the exact same thing.

A lot of fucking credit to Travis as well. Both drum fills on the first two phrases of the chorus right before the "BREAK ME DOWWN" hype me up so damn much.

There are almost as many typos in that article as there are words in the article.

It was a hyperbole I couldn't resist. But honestly, what the hell?

Based on that track by track, I got the impression that Matt didn't actually contribute as much as I originally thought.

So I have gotten through the beginning up to teenage satellites. I am really digging this album, will have to take repeat listens to pick favorites. Will be resuming the album in a moment but so far stand outs besides the ones released officially have been She's Out Of Her Mind, Sober, Los Angeles and home. I like teenage satellites and kings but they haven't popped as strong as the others on first listen. Now back to your regularly scheduled awesomeness.

I've had a different song stuck in my head each morning since last Friday. Usually Left Alone, Sober, She's Out of Her Mind and No Future, but today's was Home is Such a Lonely Place. I dig.
