Friday stuff:

-The new Pelican release might be my favorite of theirs since The Fire in Their Throats... This swerve towards a harder direction while keeping true to their core sound really works for them on this release.

-The new Fuming Mouth is good. I remember checking these guys out like 3(?) years ago so it's rad to finally get their debut. I need to digest it more before forming a more in-depth opinion, but so far so good.

-New Carnifex single:

These guys (plus girl) are one of the best up and coming heavy bands in Australia, and this song fucking slams. I predict this is going to be my EPOTY. If you like Arkangel, Heaven Shall Burn, Martyr AD and Disembodied then check this shit

Also, I've been away from this thread for ages so I don't know if anyone posted this, but I am fucking in love with this album. It's like a cross between early-00s metalcore and the modern metallic hardcore revival scene, and has dudes from Desolated involved so you know it slams.

 

Also also, I have so much love for metal bands who come from scenes in countries you never would've expected to have metal scenes (having grown up in Abu Dhabi, which had a small and crappy but really fun metal scene) and I have so much fascination with Central Asia, so discovering a sick blackgaze band from Baku, Azerbaijan was a highlight of this year in meral so far.

Kosmik, by Violet Cold, really slaps.

 

I love Pelican and have heard good shit about Fuming Mouth, so thanks for letting me know!

Also, maybe it's because I've been revisiting deathcore a bit and have been really enjoying the new stuff Whitechapel and Thy Art Is Murder have released, but that Carnifex song is rather good! And I actually never really liked Carnifex even in the height of my br00tal kid days!

 

why is the pelican album so damn muddy

 

Oh and also Venom Prison is AOTY. Until I hear that Lamb Of God album they promised us I'm sticking with that.

 

New Fetid album from 20 Buck Spin is pure filth

 

Saw Full of Hell/Primitive Man/Genocide Pact/Racetraitor/Vault Dweller last night.

SOLID show. Primitive Man doesn't really click with me, but goddamn they were loud and heavy. Full of Hell and Racetraitor both had TONS of energy and put on great live sets. Genocide Pact just brings the riffs and groove. Vault Dweller sounded promising, but I only caught the tale end of their set. Kinda grindcore leaning with some hardcore elements.
