Yeah I really don't see the problem with 2014. Quicksliver and his story in the 2nd half of hte movie was kind of boring but I enjoyed most all of the other human elements

I haven’t seen it since theaters so I don’t remember specifics but I know couldn’t get over how dumb the characters were

I was totally into the concept of having Godzilla take a backseat but if you’re gonna do that don’t have the humans be boring dummies

I end up feeling about Godzilla ’14 the same way I feel about David Gordon Green’s Halloween from last year: it is a solid B, maybe B+, when so many elements were in place for it to be a damn masterpiece. Still a lot better than a lot of things that come out, but to say there’s no disappointment there is a lie.

Why have Godzilla take a backseat in his own movie though...???

I mean, it’s the Jaws effect. Same with Alien. It can absolutely work. But it didn’t

Okay, those two are unquestionable classics, so I'll give you that - it can be done. But that is REALLY HARD to do well. You got Steven Spielberg and Ridley Scott back in their prime - and I am someone who is a huge fan of Gareth Edwards.

  9. The futility of humans and inconsequential nature of all their actions is one of my favorite aspects of Godzilla 2014.

For sure, but I really don't feel like this is what they're going for. That was the point I was trying to make based off of the reviews.

I'm going to see Godzilla and other monsters fight. Couldn't care less about the humans in the film.

Saw this. And well, if you only care about monsters duking it out you'll get your money's worth in that regard. That was cool. Most everything else is an incomprehensible mess and none of the human characters are interesting. Kyle Chandler plays the most generic motherfucker ever in this

But hey, if you do buy a ticket for this, you might as well stay after the credits I guess

    Sounds like I’ll enjoy it

Ironically, Matthew Broderick’s character in ‘98 Godzilla and Cranston from ‘14 are the only human characters I’ve ever liked. I don’t watch Godzilla films for the human characters.

Eh, I suppose it's a matter of what you came to the movie for. I have no delusions that anything I say will influence anyone else to see it or not

As soon as Dougherty was attached to the film I knew none of the characters would be interesting. The same thing happened when it was announced that he helped write X-Men: Apocalypse.

I’m just glad that the monsters are receiving good feedback.

Yeah I mean Krampus story was meh though I loved the creature designs, and the creepiness factor of it all.

Even though I love a lot of the actors in this, I would be fine if they said nothing at all, or just "holy shit look at the size of those things!" and blurted out all the exposition.

Someone called this the worst American Godzilla film lol
Truthful adaptations of Ghidorah, Mothra and Rodan along with the original theme song already make this better than ‘98 Godzilla

I am not saying it is impossible, because I have not seen this film yet - but I would be SHOCKED if this is worse than the 1998 Roland Emmerich Godzilla clusterfuck, even if we have already seen literally every second of cool footage in the trailers already.

Thought this would happen. Godzilla 2014 will forever be the closest a western Godzilla comes to the highs of the series.

Taking time to once again plug Monsters and it's amazing soundtrack.

Shame for Dougherty though, I wonder if he'll make something as good as Trick r Treat or was that just lightning in a bottle for him.

Edit: wait y'all don't know humans are the most important parts of Godzilla films?

Well, this one doesn't have Puff Daddy rapping over Led Zeppelin, The Wallflowers covering Bowie or Hank Azaria, so let's not jump to that conclusion either.

I know humans have not been a factor in how much I like Godzilla films. One of the worst Godzilla films (1998) has one of the most interesting characters and some of the best Japanese Godzilla films have characters I can’t even remember the names of.

With that I don’t consider them to be important.

I know this isn't really the place for this, but I think it is a damn shame that Gareth Edwards doesn't have any projects coming up. At least not that I can find anything about.
