I mean the movie is undoubtedly anti human, it makes this so clear by killing off cranston (and binoche) so early in the film and then leaving you with two leads whose superpower is that they cannot react to any single event for the rest of the movie lmao

 

2014 was such a fun theater experience. wonder how it holds up on a rewatch.

 

Pacific Rim was such a fun movie; I had my mouth open wide like a kid for all the fight scenes. So epic.

But I feel this film will blow that one out of the water

 

Just got a ticket to see this opening night and i’m hyped. Need to rewatch 2014 soon in anticipation.

lol yeah I read a couple and they’re basically “the monsters and the fighting is all pretty awesome...but the human characters don’t do much other than provide exposition and say things that sound dumb”

Umm, hello, I’m not going to see Godzilla for the prose. Give me simple exposition and dumb human side plots as long as they give me all the info on the monsters I can handle, I’m good with that.

 

I’ll be ok if it’s just dumb fun. I really disliked Godzilla(2014) largely cause they tried to have a human story and the humans were complete idiots and the their story was a snooze fest. So not having a story could work in its favor tbh

Watching this tomorrow night

 

On one hand I think the whole "if you expected an Oscar winner you're doing it wrong!" excuse is a bad one. You can make a legit action packed movie that still has decent writing/characters/etc (Mission Impossible, Fury Road, some MCU films). But I think this is gonna be the same experience I had with Pacific Rim, which was like all my favorite anime/video games come to life on screen.

 

This really can’t be any worse than the first.
