I desperately want to feel that 2014 Godzilla is a fantastic movie, and sometimes I even end up thinking that it is when I think back on it, but then I watch it again and for me it's just good. Solid. So many of the elements are there but something is just missing for me... Honestly to me, it really plays like a version of a spectacular movie that was edited way down for some reason and still ends up alright but not nearly as good as it was in its full length.

The first teaser for this movie is still the best teaser for a movie i’ve ever seen.

When I was in Japan I went to a small Godzilla shop that a collector owned at his house. There was so much authentic Godzilla merch from the 60s, 70s and 90s. I’m glad I left most of my money at my hotel.

Has anyone identified all the Kaiju in this movie yet? Still curious about that turtle looking thing, I'm guessing it's young mothra rather than something more obscure like gamera?

They’re all original monsters since legendary only has the rights to the big four monsters for this movie.

This really is the only movie that matters.

  17. Review embargo doesn't lift til next week but the first reactions from social media seemed positive. Sounds exactly like what we all want.

Same. I always choose Pacific Rim over it when I'm in the mood for this shit

Pacific Rim is legit. Too bad they never made a sequel.

  20. I never saw Uprising. Was it really that bad?

I watched Godzilla 2014 for the first time over the weekend, and kind of really loved it?? I thought it made some truly audacious and shocking choices with such a beloved franchise/material, and that it kicked a ton of ass being as misanthropic and willing to fuck with its audience as it was. I'm excited for this one even though it,,,,kind of looks like its going in a completely different direction ?

Also Pacific Rim Uprising was so bad it hurts my brain to remember that it only came out a year ago WOOF

  23. Ya I loved Godzilla 2014, but I'm also ready for King of Monsters to be a straight up crazy monster fight movie.

I think that its so funny they went from a movie that downplayed the monster fighting basically as much as it possibly could to one thats (marketing, at least, is) fully embracing it.

2014 is great. I'm also of the opinion that it would not have been any better or worse if it focused on Bryan Cranston's character instead, which is something I seen thrown around a LOT.
