Also, I've said this before, but the abrupt departures/murders do not necessarily bother me. If one looks at it like actual history, there are often dynamics in which the lives and plans of major players are cut short by the actions of others. But, I do wish they had spent some time with Brienne and established some connection between where Arya was and how she came to be in such close proximity to Walder Frey. I understand the need for resolution, but I do miss the wandering, season-long explorations of various themes.

I hear a lot of people say they want Arya to kill Cersei and I just don't like that idea. At this point I want it to be Olena.

Olenna killing her would be great but I think Jamie will end up doing it. Based just on the look he gave her in their last scene.

Cersei has become the Mad Queen, so it would only be fitting that Jamie does some queenslaying.

My only gripe, and I know people are going to tell me to stop hoping, was that Lady Stoneheart didn't show up. I think it's beyond the point of no return on that one.

Will be interesting to see what they do with Brienne, the Brotherhood without Banners, and the Red Priestesses. The fact that M is no longer with House Stark kinda ruins my idea that they would play a support role for a Stark/Targaryen takedown of House Lannister. Perhaps, Brienne comes across the Brotherhood on her way back to Winterfell and sees them planning a third party take over of Westeros. Set up a little monotheism vs polytheism battle.

Masterful episode. Best one since Hardhome.

For me, the music isn't generally a defining feature of this show (outside of the theme song and the Rains of Castemere) but the score in this episode was unbelievably good.

Had a feeling Walder's death was around the corner, but didn't know it would be as satisfying, haha. That's about as much justice as you could ask for in this show (and then some...dem pies OMG). So did Arya kill everyone in house Frey? Holy shit. Was wondering how she infiltrated his keep at first, but I suppose when you can literally transform into anyone in Westeros you can assassinate just about anyone. And yet I was kinda grossed out with myself for savoring Walder's death so much. He wasn't like Ramsay, who relished in murder and torture and psychological terror. Even though he played a main role in one of the most devastating and unjust killings in the story, it was all politics and principals to him, nothing more or less. He saw collaborating with the Lannisters to be more beneficial than forming an alliance with the Starks. He was a heartless monster, but not like Ramsay - he was indifferent to the sorta brutality that Ramsay took joy in. In the end, he was less a power-hungry murderer than just an old codger who didn't give a fuck about anything but House Frey, not like Ramsay or Cersei who were bent on oppressing, murdering, torturing as many people as possible to gain power. I mean, I still cheered when Arya cut his throat, lol, but the pie that was literally made of the members of his house....daaaaaaammmmmnnn.

Fucking Littlefinger. Shoo, go away. Go pimp somewhere else.

There was some talk ITT about Jon and Sansa hooking up at some point. Ew. Better not happen. Even if they're only slightly blood related, still gross and would make me lose respect for their characters since they were raised bro and sis. If that's where Sansa's arch has been leading, talk about cringe.

Speaking of which, looks like Jamie's bae/sister is now basically the new incarnation of the Mad King. WOW. Next season will be a defining moment for him. Continue to protect your own at any cost, which has been your driving force throughout the series? Or say fuck that and kill your own because they are evil and do something noble again for the good of the realm? Really interesting development there, I knew there was some talk about Cersei using wildfire earlier in the season but didn't know to what extent and for some reason where it was all going never occurred to me.

Lancel and Margaery, holy fuck. Out of the fire and into the furnace. And Lancel was totally stripped of all dignity moments before. High Sparrow, delightfully part of the red spectrum of extremist assholes. Now your turn to burn for a while, pal.

Got a really, really bad feeling in my gut about Sam and fam. He's been safe for quite a while. And taking that sword might have been a fatal mistake, but hopefully not. Have no idea what's gonna happen to him, but feeling a sense of dread for sure.

So if the theory is true, Jon is the son of both Ned's sister and someone of royal nobility? Most likely Targaryen. So the significance to that is if that was known throughout the realm he essentially has a ticket to being Dany's runningmate by the end of the story? That would be rad.

Man, Tommen's death... tragic. Last season I thought he was gonna get starked for sure though, so not as bad as it could've been. Difficult to imagine a fate for him that would've ended well. RIP.

Earlier ITT someone mentioned how this episode felt like fan fiction. Got me thinking...although GOT for me will probably end up being the most compelling achievement for TV since The Wire no matter what at this point, how much of this season is actually "official"? I'm sure Martin will say the show is the show and the books are the books, but whether ASOIAF is ever completed is up in the air, so would be cool if the show is still technically an adaptation, even a super condensed one. Anyone know to what extent the major plot developments this season (aside from Hodor's origin and death, which we know is from Martin) have been confirmed as part of the source material?

If it's any consolation, Arya has become quite a stone-cold motherfucker and saw LS's overall goal to its end.

I'm guessing most of the big plot points come from GRRM. I can't see him not telling them what he's doing with the story and just leaving them to write it themselves.

If R+L=J is the truth, then wouldn't they be first cousins? Jon could have a better claim to the throne because Rhaegar was the Mad King's older brother and would have been king if Robert Baratheon didn't kill him.

  17. This is exactly what I thought during the episode. Mel + BwB would be nice!

Exactly. They're having a "holy shit, we've put the North back together like it was when our parents ruled... but they're gone now so oh shit we have to rule..." moment.

I was wondering how many people caught this.

I really hope there's a lot of fighting against nonhuman armies coming up...

I expect Howland Reed to show up early next season now that Jon's been named King in the North.

Unfortunately Old Town is going to feel cheap and rushed no matter what. I was hoping that something a little more sinister was taking shape there there like what has been hinted in the books but I really Sam stealing a Valyrian Steel sword en route to the Citadel is a good sign that they're going to figure out how to start making it again, and that will be the main purpose of the Old Town arc. Regardless, I still have my fingers very much crossed for the Eldritch Apocalypse theory to come true.

If he survives until the wall comes down, then he should be able to cross into the south and keep fighting, hopefully?

  19. Dany's older brother, Rhaegar Targaryen, is the man who impregnated Lyanna Stark, Jon's mother.

Wasn't Rhaegar married to someone other than Lyanna? Or at least betrothed? I could be making that up but if so, Jon's still technically a bastard, whatever that means. Either way, that line was basically ended for 20+ years, so I'm not putting too much stock in who "should" have the throne because it's arbitrary. If Jon is the last man/woman standing after all this and takes it, then it's his.

Ah OK, that makes more sense

  24. One thing I will mention because I keep seeing a lot of people discuss this... it doesn't really matter at all who has "more of a right to the throne" between Jon and Dany, because with them both being Targaryen descendants of a murdered/ousted king, neither of them have a claim anymore. Once the crown is usurped then all claims by the former monarch's family are worthless (unless said former-heirs show up with an army and take it back through force, of course). Neither one of them have a rightful or valid claim at the moment, though.

Yes. Rhaegar had a wife (Elia Martell, Oberyn & Doran's sister). However, a lot of people believe that Rhaegar and Lyanna may have been married in secret, thus making Jon a legitimate Targaryen. The show seems to be more-interested in the Baratheon side of the story though, often saying Rhaegar raped Lyanna. But in the books there are a lot more hints that R&L were very much in love.

we've seen the shadow of the axe before Supporter

That's what I've been trying to figure out. And will they believe him and just take his word for it?

Also, assuming they do believe him, does that hurt Jon's claim? Inherently, it really does nothing more than solidify his place as the King. But the North was rallying behind him based on him being the bastard child of the North's believe Eddard. Could that hurt his claim and strengthen Sansa's? (Assuming she even wants it?)
