I don't think there was any sort of news about it before the story that he'd been hired. Or about him looking at making the jump to the pros, for that matter. Apparently one of the big reasons they wanted him is that they see him as a "culture builder." It seems weird to make the decision they day before the lottery, though, but maybe he was the guy they wanted regardless.

 

If LeBron is even remotely available there will be 29 teams “exploring” a LeBron trade

it's pretty crazy that the biggest play / shot in Raptors history might have been made by a guy who will only be on their team for one season.

Brett Brown for the most part did a great job. He outcoached Nurse, but we had great defense and a Kawhi. There is no one on the market that would be an improvement.

Brian Windhost was on ESPN Cleveland a few weeks ago and told the host that the Cavs were looking to make a big name splash hire and had insight as to who it was but couldn't say. The host asked if it was Izzo again, and Windhorst said 'no, but you're in the right ballpark.'

Windhorst was back on ESPN Cleveland this morning and said he knew the Cavs had interest in Beilein, which lead to those previous comments weeks ago, but he thought the Cavs had no shot at getting him.

So, I think behind the scenes, there may have been some talk about this. Plus, as I mentioned earlier today, the Cavs interviewed him last week and then DG met with him again on Friday. But out of respect for Michigan, they kept it under wraps.

 

Damn, KD and hood might come back at the same time. Nice.
