I'm aware. That doesn't mean the mix has to turn the rhythm guitar into an afterthought, especially during the chorus.

  2. I gotta revisit that band. I fell off after Black Parade. Love everything before that though.

I don't like this song, but at least it's better than "Hold Up a Light."

I really had no reaction my first listen, like I had no idea if I liked it or not haha.

End of the day I love it and it is very much a blink song just with a bit of a different chorus

After a dozen listens, I like it as much as the first time I heard it: a lot.

I probably dig it more than "Bored To Death". To be fair, while that one was a strong bridge between their classic pop punk sound and their alternative rock sensibilities, some California songs never felt genuine. I mean most of the throwback songs (e.g. "Kings Of The Weekend", "Wildfire", "Parking Lot" or the joke tracks).

And I'm not talking about 40-year-old men writing about being teenagers - that whole complaint seems pointless to me. Why should we even take the lyrics at face value? Even if we can discern autobiographical elements, their songs are not their lives, but mainly part of an artistic persona. It's not that different to a middle-aged person writing a YA novel and nobody has an issue with that... The thing is that the recurring "We are forgotten young suburbia" trope felt really plastic, passionless, lazy, etc.

Now, lyrically, BIOMY is the nostalgia theme done right. I could do without the ritalin verse (I'd prefer a repetition of "I was raised on a re-run" there, maybe) and I don't think Matt's verse lives up to Mark's, but it feels specific and not generic, sincere and not stereotyped.

Obviously that has everything to do with the fresh sound (for blink standards). It's an energy rush: sounds radiant and "angstful" at the same time. I back some of the "Feeling This" comparisons (despite BIOMY not being as great) in the sense that as lead single this still feels like blink-182 but with a twist. In 2003 they came back with an hip hop-ish/The Beach Boys-ish tune, in 2019 they return with a song bathed in 2010s synthwave/synthpop.

After this, here's hoping the new album turns out to be as rich, fresh and varied as the untitled record - regardless of having nearly no chance of topping it (to me)...

That dude has been hating for awhile now because...well..."They're ruining the band's legacy".

Edit: Watching it now and he looks and sounds soooo heartbroken hahaha.

After a ton of listens I’m now worried the rest of the album won’t stack up to this! Ha

I know ragging on commentors is kinda played out by now but I just saw Mark have to explain what a tour was to someone in the comments on the gram and that all 3 acts will perform separate sets because he asked if the whole show would be blink and Wayne.

What if this single isn't even on the album? Is that possible? I mean...Bad Religion did that. But this is Blink who's on a different level. Just surprised they announced a tour and song, but no album title, release date, music video or anything like that.

If anything I’m glad they’re still working on the album instead of saying “well, we booked these dates so now let’s rush to finish this so we can put preorders up with the single”

Sounds like we won't get any more videos of "what would this song sound like if Tom wrote riffs he hasn't written in over 15 years" I'll have to figure out how to manage without I guess haha

Oh we’re talking how we discovered blink?

In my sophomore year of highschool right around when Untitled what comin Out, I had to do a project in computer class on PowerPoint and my assignment was rock bands.

I was mainly into hip hop at the time so I did the few bands I knew, one of them was blink because my best friend loved them. I listened to the bands when making their slides. I heard STFTK and I was sold instantly

Heard the song this morning. This is such a huge event for teenager me. After one listen I think I “like” the song in the same vein as “Bored to Death.” I see this song’s energy growing on me but I’m not really into that chorus.

I’ll be very surprised if the album doesn’t sound anything like California like some have said because that first single doesn’t scream “experimental” to me.

Oh and I really love how Tom is over on instagram promoting his AVA stuff AND the new blink song AND Simple Creatures. Even Mark had some good things to say about the AVA song on his insta live feed yesterday. I’m glad they’re on great terms now.

This is horrific and I'm ashamed I watched it. The funny thing about people talking shit about Weezy being a bottom tier or shitty rapper and "tarnishing blink's legacy" is hilarious when I'm pretty sure most rock "purists" would consider blink the least credible and shitty band ever haha.

Peak Wayne from like 14/15ish years ago is actually considered one of the all time elite rappers. I've never really cared about reviews or worried about what critics/journalists thought about music I liked but even a half hearted google of "Lil Wayne best rapper" or something brings up plenty of old articles from several major publications proclaiming him the best at one time (and not just cos he had a song calling himself the best alive!).

On first listen I was pretty underwhelmed, but on second listen (on better speakers) I liked it more. I actually like the instrumentation a lot (and totally agree with whoever said the intro reminded them of TOO TIME), only thing bringing it down for me is marks vocals/melodies tbh, never been a huge fan of his voice. But yea song gets better with each listen and sounds like blink to me, I don’t understand being surprised or disappointed in the direction.

Edit: listening to California rn and Sober is just fantastic. I think that record, including deluxe, has a bunch of stinkers, but also a lot of bangers.

Some reaction videos are pretty funny bc you just see the disappointment on their faces and just pure heartbreak. Its quite amusing.

Song didn't hit me as much as Bored to Death, but I like it. I think the style will grow on me.

  21. I can't think of anything I'd rather not do than record myself listening to music, let alone the "first" time. Especially if you're on video you'd feel the need to "perform" in some way.

That'd be my hell: me on some live video feed doing mundane things.

I didn't think I could hate a larger percentage of one of my own fanbases than I did with the Yankees, but blink is easily surpassing it. What a gigantic bunch of goddamn fickle whiners.
