This song is the first time I feel like Matt is part of the band rather than the new guy in Blink

Lol It’s sad that I feel this way though Cause I’m definitely more of a blink fan

I just read through the article discussion thread on this song and yikes. Glad they're staying there and instead of being in here.

High Hopes has a really unique song structure and awesome production, plus loud beats and horn instrumentation with a barrage of riffs that never give up.

This is more chill. Which is fun, but the only link these two songs have is that cowriter.

Completely agree, felt like on CA there were times when he was just "there". Though if you told me 10 years ago this was a song that Skiba helped write I wouldn't have believed you.

I'm doing the same right now! haha.

  8. Nah, this has awesome production, a very modern pop-song structure, and some really creative elements in the intro, bridge, and outro.

We can check back in in a few months to see if this was successful or not as a single. I'm bullish.

I keep going back to this song and I'm just genuinely confused at people who think it's just like top 40 pop? Like I genuinely don't understand how this doesn't still sound like blink-182. Guitars are still here, and not just here but very prominent. There's still drums all over. There are literally just a few synth sounds over everything else, but they're really blending in as just another instrument.

I don't care if someone doesn't like the song, but I'm just confused at some of the things people are saying because this is nowhere near being out of left field to me.

You can literally hear each members influence on this track.

I guess the hiatus and neighborhoods made fans forget blink-182 has been top 40 pop since dammit

Know what other album people were up in arms about saying that the band didn’t sound like themselves anymore?

    Untitled.

Know what album people these Days regard as a classic blink album??

    Untitled.

It’s my favorite album of all time. And blink fans reacted this same way when it came out

Really? Me and all my friends immediately adored it. Still do and it’s def their best effort.

This song reminds me more of generic alt-station fodder than "pop" per se. I'm sure it'll occupy radio time on the same stations that "Broken" by lovelytheband got big on. But I still don't see it getting as huge as BTD.

I'm really curious to see how this single does. Could they crack the Hot 100 again?

  19. That song went to #14 on Top 40. #29 on the Hot 100. #1 on Adult Top 40. #1 on Rock AirPlay.

That's a massive song ... that's bigger than "Bored to Death" was.

It’s a cycle. The vocal minority will always hate the newest album, then when the next one is released they’ll start talking about how much they liked the previous one. With this new album I except a lot of California haters to suddenly deflect & say they always liked it.

This isn’t even just exclusive to Blink’s fan base either.

The more I listen the more it gives me a Feeling This vibe. Obviously just a bit mellower. The melodies in the verses feel just different enough from typical blink, like it throws me off trying to sing along a little. Growing on me fast.

I feel like they could have made this chorus sound huge but production-wise its missing something.

Overall I appreciate them following through with making this album sound different, but i dont love this. Im not sure why yet, but im suspicious its skibas contribution here. I think if tom had his hand in a song like this wed have gotten something on the level of DED and i would have welcomed that.

Oh no, I'm totally not denying that, I was just comparing the sounds.

The song reminds me of a more modern pop version of "After Midnight" and some of California. That chilled out, clean guitar kind of vibe is something blink has always done really successfully ("Always" being a slight pun there). "Asthenia" is another good example of a mid-tempo song of theirs that captures that.

I don't get the complaints or expectations that should have been "punk" or energetic at all. I understand not liking it, but being completely put off by it is just weird to me.

Regardless of what my feelings are about this song I'm still pretty excited for the album !
